Project Seafarer (Ship model)

Having not been able to sleep very much as a result of alcohol withdrawls from the festive season I decided to put my time to some (good) use.

As anyone who knows me will know I live in an old coastguard station right on Rosslare Harbour and am mad into ferries. Over the years Stena Line have used a ferry called Stena Seafarer on one or two occasions to relieve our regular Fishguard-Rosslare ferry (Stena Europe) while she headed to dry dock for maintenance etc. The last time she visited was in 2010, she has since been sold on to Russian interests or something so we wont see her in Rosslare again unless its on my shelf.

I had cut a hull out of some waste wood a long time back and since then its just got in the way around the house, after closer inspection I realised the hull was similar to that of the Seafarer so last night I decided to make a burst at it.

To show you what I'm aiming for here's some pics of the original.

[BREAK=Day 3 Part 2 Primed]
Now that the major structural crap is done i threw a quick dose of primer on it to highlight the imperfections, thatll make it much easier when I'm isoponing and sanding it down.

Have you thought about building a 19 16v? :) Looks good how many others have you got? You built that model Titanic iirc eh? I like anything like that..

ive been too busy to build anything over the last while so at the minute i have a backlog of model kits to build, about 5 cruise liners (qe2, qm2 etc), an old esso tanker called the glasgow, the infamous GTS Finnjet which is my favourite and after all that im going back to pure wood build of the st killian II, its a definite hobby and they make the house look nice too, id love to build a valver someday im just not sure i could do it justice really

i sure am neal, the hull was a chunk of wood left over from my kitchen the rest is lolly sticks, match sticks and left over bits of wood, once the main thing is finished ill isopon the shit out of the whole thing and sand it down

Looks good am building the hms hood at the moment then got the plans for the Bismarck it will keep my busy for a couple of months :) .:D

2 More updates, she's taking shape now.

I may check how buoyant she is Chris but if she floats I could see her being a major factor in reasons to have baths. Nah never considered selling any of the models I have made Chris, that being said this is the first one of this scale that I have made from scratch, I have made smaller ones before and some larger ones but the larger ones were kit based ones

selling them may be a way to get some money in mate.

I know when I build stuff I'm bored, I enjoy the building, not the finishing.

yeah the building is definitely the fun part, what kind of money would you say something like this (finished obviously) would get?

no idea in all honesty.

Between £1 and £1,000,000,000 I reckon.

Seeing how much some of the crap sells for in the artsy world I reckon you should get something worthwhile anyway. Its got all the right lingo, renewable sources (eat more lollies) completely hand built and so on.

im looking forward to finishing this one, then i have a kit of the gts finnjet, followed by the esso tanker glasgow after which ill go back to scratch building, im hoping to do another 1/308 model this time of the Saint Killian II. I'd be very curious to see what kind of money would be spent on one of these, im mounting it to aboard with some random sea and rocks and shit so it should be quite eye catching, also I ordered 100 cars to be on the deck of it which will hopefully arrive this week
