Problem possibly coils??

Just driving my car home, and coming up the hill the engine began to feel hesitant and lumpy. Within 5 seconds the orange engine management light was on. I stopped the car and it sounded like a scooby engine running, straight away i thought coil/s

I stopped the car and restarted it and all sounded normal, i have driven it about 1 mile and all feels normal, but the management light is still on.

Any ideas?

ORANGE ENGINE LIGHT = COIL...!!!! (well IMO anyway...!!)

Well, put it this way, I had TWO more coils go on me yesterday morning     that's 6 in total...getting a dab hand at spotting coil failure.....I should get a job with Reno...

I'd get it changed if I were you....easiest way to suss out if it is, take off each individual lead to the coil whilst the engine is running/ticking over......if the engine noise changes (i.e. misfires more) the coil in question is fine, so replace the lead and check the next one....if there's no change in engine noise/idlying, that's generally the coil that's gone and the one you need to replace....

Oh BTW.....Vee's DON'T sound like Scoobies ticking over....that's your coil mate...!!! REPLACE..!!!

Good luck....

Just looking at the guide in knowledge base on how to check them. :approve:

I will be heading out with a hangover to investigate tomorrow.

Once its fixed, how do i get rid of the management light?

Automatically goes out once the coil has been changed.....can take a bit though...

Hmmm car started and ran as normal this morning.

I checked all the coils and all were fine.

I then drove to halfords, with the management light on, all driving ok. After i parked the car up and came back to it, the management light had gone out on its own.

Iv ordered two coils just incase as im sure thats what caused it.

Had a similar thing myself this week. Started my Vee up (coincidently to move her for a wash) and she cranked desperately for an eternity before finally firing up, only to sound like a scooby idling. I let her run for a bit then the engine light came on. So I get the AA man out and (typical) when he starts her up she's purring like a pussycat. The diagnostics said "random misfire". So he reset the light and so far (touch wood) she seems OK. He said may be something to do with the fuel and when I think about it she was running on the last dregs of a tank of crappy BP fuel rather than Optimax (or whatever they call it now!).

I had this fault on mine i.e. random misfire (P0300 on OBD) and engine management light going on and off.

Turned out to be oxygen sensor had gone - infact 2 went in the end nearest the bulkhead - have a look at the exhaust tips to see if they are black / sooty.
