Phase 1 #1157 For Sale on Gumtree

She looks lovely indeed, shame steering wheel isn't done though.

Also, I think Iceberg always looks better in natural daylight, really brings out the shine.

FYI, I sold my first phase 1 vee with tasteful mods (18'S) with approx 75k on the clock for £7,500 about 3.5 years ago.

I have forwarded this onto George. But for the sake of the forum and keeping the record up-to-date place see my summation below. (These are my opinions and should only be treated as such)

Overall option of car – 8/10

• Paint work in great condition given the age of the car. Two marks; one on the inside of the door, could be touched up but not visible when closed and one on the rear bumper, scuff through to plastic, again not bad and could be touched up to a 90% improvement. Or resprayed for £200.
• Interior largely in good condition, minor wear to seats, would suggest a leather paint treatment, cost a couple of hundred or if you’re feeling brave you can do it yourself.
• Grills all looks okay, front, back and side vents.
• One thing to clarify on the forum is the paint…It strikes me as being in too good condition for the age. But the front end looks a little dull (Not colour match) just dull. He mentioned than the ph1 was painted in different places then assembled which is why this is the case. Not sure if that’s true or not. A detail may improve it but not 100% sure, it’s obvious to me, but I’m a perfectionist when it comes to paint; I also have no issues with a car having resprays, as long as there done well.
• Under bonnet and engine is clean, no oil or grease anywhere.
• Car has aftermarket mats which are clean enough but look out of place against the blue (imo)
• Car has aftermarket Headunit but also the original.
• Car is complete with wheel nut keys and spare bolts.
• Rear wheels were refurbed but imo now the fronts whilst in decent condition look tired…could do with freshening up. Problem with doing two at a time is a mismatch, unless Colin tells you where he got the rears done. (Laws tyres in Aberdeen I believe)
• Front tyres are Pilot Sports, 5mm+ no cracking or signs or uneven wear. Rears are brand new. They are 235/45/17 which I questioned, but checked this AM…they are correct size for the car. (I learnt something new)
• Suspension from what I could see looked fine. Minor surface rust on the hubs and struts.
• Discs have a bit of a lip, but are a low cost replacement part now via Apex.
• Exhaust – Ktec (Same as mine) looked in good shape from what I could see. Gave it a good rev, it’s a bit choked up but fine. I looked for movement on the engine mounts, looked okay.
• Clutch felt fine, but didn’t drive it.

Overall a very tidy car, Colin seems an honest seller, he’s just set up a new company to sell ‘more unique cars’ I think he’s done the due diligence when buying from Rennie. A couple of grand would make this a very tiny ph1 on 30k miles. The values of which will only increase. If it was my car I would address the following:

• Full detail to assess any paint requirements.
• Perhaps a rear bumper respray or a detailed touch-up.
• Interior refresh.
• Re-install the original stereo.
• Refurb front wheels.

We didn’t drive the car so I can’t comment on that, or view the service history, although he said there was a detailed file full of receipts and the relevant stamps in the book to match invoices.

Is it worth the £13,250. I would have to say so…Perhaps you could wangle a couple of hundred off it if you’re feeling that something isn’t quite as he’s described.

Very thorough description Ali, good for records for the future. last time I saw it Simon was having to run it for a while as his daily so not really possible to assess the paint to that degree, he certainly looked after it well then so it seems to have moved on to a similarly minded person in Colin. :approve:

A HUGE thanks to Ali for kindly taking time out of his evening to go and view this car for me. :approve:
