PH2 front on a PH1

johnler

New Member
Hi guys has anyone ever done this, put a phase 2 front on a Phase 1 can and could anyone tell me if the wing's are the same on both , and is the only difference between the 2 only the bumper's and lights and bonnet, many thanks

sorry also has anyone done a colour change on one, thanks

The front wings are different for the Phase 1 and 2 because of the shape of the headlight cluster. Never heard of swapping out the front end for a Phase 2 so can't comment on if it is even possible.

My Phase 1 is currently having a respray and a colour change...

what colour are you going for, I would like a liquid yellow one, I did a Vx 220 up and changed it to a liquid yellow one and I think that alone sold the car for me, I prefer the phase 2 look but got chance of a phase 1 at the right price

when will yours be finished have you got any pic of it in the pre-painting stage

Quite a few have had it done. Brett iceberg to ribena, Steve iceberg to catalunya, Simon, Jon (wrap though), Dean went green.

You can do it & it has been done a number of times, but IMO it looks a bit naff.

Even if you go to the hassle of changing the bumper, bonnett, wings, wheels, spoiler, lights, pods and rear bumper to make it look like a phase 2. It starts to look a bit replica like & you can still tell its a phase one. And you would be 3-4k out of pocket & devalue a phase 1 (IMO).

If you want a phase 2, just get a phase 2.

The phase 1 front end is the better looking of the two!

not going to bother but a respray may be the way, to go, can anybody find and put different v6's with colour changes up, seen a few looking through pic's on here, you guy's really do have some very nice well looked after cars on here

Here is one Ph2 front on a PH 1

that looks very nice and I don't think looking at that, that it would loose money because its not original phase one are the rear's the same

Theres another, this ones been resprayed too.

It just looks wrong to me. Its all very well changing the front end, but to make it look right from all angles you'd have to change the grilles on the rear bumper, the rear lights, the rear spoiler, exhaust, the side pods and associated grilles, potentially tailgate (some ph1s already have ph2 tailgate) then the 17's look lost so you have to get the phase two wheels...costing that little lot up is about 4 grand (on the cheap), plus paint and labour...you could have a 7 grand car for the cost of 12 grand one.... then you'd still have the phase 1 interior and the ariel is still in the wrong place.

it really wouldnt be worth it when ph2 prices are so low at the moment.

if you just do the front end, it looks like its 50/50 of both versions together:

i have a huge collection of pics of v6's resprayed into other colours, any particular ones you want to see?

Didnt you buy the stolen recovered ph2 'johnler'? Or have I missed something?

yes your right, but I've been offered a very low miles car, and mine is up for sale, and I must say after driving the phase 2 I got, I have decided I'm going to own one, but if I can get a low mile one I would rather own one with less miles and hoping to get around £9,000 for the phase 2 I've got, even thou its been stolen recovered its not recorded on any register, and when they stole it, they will have give some beans but just like 2 or 3 of track days and cant have been that bad because the discs are like new with no lip what so ever, and they didn't trash it no lock damage, I don't think any damage from been stolen, so Its got to be worth £9.000 for a phase 2

Ah... thanks for clearing that up :approve:

I'd have to side with DDouble regarding your ph1 though... A costly conversion, and one that will inevitably de-value the car you started with unfortunately. If you plan on keeping the car for eternity it wont matter... same goes for the respray in a different colour. Historically, the more OEM the car.. the greater the desirability to any perspective buyer thus the greater the value. IMHO :salut:

Going to have to agree with the last two posts regarding the phase one

Also I thought your wife had an issue with the age of cars? (BTW I owned a 2008 R32 as well :race: )

Hmmm.....I don't really agree. If things are done to the correct standard, in the right way and on the right car then I can't see it. Yans car pictured above is a lovely car, done well and to a good taste. Considering good ph1s are going for £8-9k I wouldn't expect to pay much less for it. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't say changing the front end adds value. Colour wise, its swings and roundabouts. Bare in mind the vast majority of ph1s were silver and most of the blue ones are writen off, if someone wanted a ph1 in anything but silver then its the only option. Even though I had mine resprayed in Nocturne (Ribena) I still reckon the opitomy of all the V6 range regardless of phase, value or how rare is a ph1 in Iceberg. I just wanted a different OEM renault colour in a field full of silver so payed the price for it. However it might be the same price someone is willing pay when Pistonheads or Autotrader are only showing pages full of silver cars. Let's face it, are Turbo 1 and 2's worth less with different colours and the right mods? No

Well if you can get the parts free.. sprayed for free.. and fitted for free.. you'd still lose money on it! LOL

Damned right it wont..

When you had your car done, it looked fantastic Brett. Side by side against a newly painted Iceberg though, and whether it was worth any more is very subjective. Deano's car, is it worth the same as did before it was sprayed..?
Si's car on the other hand is a one off.. not just because of the colour, but because of all the other things, time and money he's spent on it. Putting a price on that.. who knows, its a rather special car.

Errr.. yes!

My wife still has a problem with it been 2 seat but after my little lad told her that this can be mine and daddy's car , she just shut up and hasn't said a thing, either way

As for the golf that was sold last Thursday and I've bought my wife a newer shape Freelander a few weeks back, so instead of selling her 56 plate Freelander I've decided that I'll keep that for when I need more than 2 seats , because if I sell it we will only get about £4.500 for it and let's be honest you can't buy much for that kind of money , so hopefully solved the problem , phase 2 car needs to go because it will prob sell better and I've already committed to this phase 1 Clio , so if you guys no anyone how is looking for a cheaper phase 2 on a 53 plate let me no ( that's if I'm not breaking any rules by saying that, thanks

Oh for the love of all that's holy don't do it, this sort of mod really should be illegal. I just keep thinking of all the idiocy in the 70s of people tearing up their mk1 minis to fit mk3 clusters, and now everybody is going back the other way, this mod is much more drastic though and completely devalues the car. PH1 front looks better anyway

Really? I'd take Martins over any of the ones I've seen hence I'd definatly pay more for it. Regarding Deano's car, that's the point I was trying to make. If Simons car was 90% standard yet sprayed bright yellow it would look shite. But adding the correct parts in the right way gives it the perfect look. Mine was Nocturne and because it was quite a subtle colour, I felt I didn't need much to finish it off. Right or not, everyone who has took the big step don't tend to regret it.

Anyway you feckin tart, who are you to comment on paint?! Yours is still yet to receive some! Lmao
