PH 1 OR WAIT FOR A PH 2 ?

with the lack of ph2 v6s around at the moment i have been looking at the ph 1s on the autotrader . i have never driven a ph1 but i have driven my friends ph2 that i see every other day  . should i consider a ph1 or just wait it out for some ph2s to pop up ??? :s

I was in a similar situation and I plumped for an immaculate ph1. I'm not disappointed, and with the spare cash I'm busy sourcing some new coilovers, 18" wheels and may even get a ph2 gearbox. People still stop and stare when they see it. Oh I've got a quicksilver exhaust which makes it sound the mutts nuts.

It may be worth looking into a Ph1. I can't imagine losing any money if you pick a good one & then "upgrade" to a ph2 when one comes available.

I have always loved the looks, prefer the ph1 172 also.
There's a nice looking one ive seen on autotrader for 9k

Being a previous mk2 owner I have toyed with the idea of a ph1 when I return, it may tick a few boxes the ph2 didn't. Would also leave some funds for an R26r.

I'd have a read of the 'is the ph2 worth double the ph1' thread to get an idea of people's feelings.

My advise would be buy the one you really want, not to settle for one that is currently avaliable.

Having said that, don't discredit a phase 1 without close consideration, they are basically the same car.

Hi Damien
I'd "lurk in the background" ready to pounce. You've got a budget that should get you a top-drawer Mk II.
There were two ultra low mileage Titaniums in the autumn that should have had your name on them!
Others will become available - it's just a matter of patience. :approve:

Wait until a suitable ph2 surfaces. Otherwise you'll spend the whole ph1 ownership experience wondering whether you'd be having more (insert here as applicable) if you'd held out for a ph2.

my old car was not sold at the time they were for sale kett or i would be driving one of them now for sure . maybe i should wait i am just being impatient . :s . with my look something will come up when i am in vegas in a few weeks

Your not wrong there. Nothing like a bit of Sod's law.
At the end of the day you have got to get which ever one YOU want, as soon as a decent one comes up, visit it ASAP and seal the deal, if you don't others will.

The odd ropey one stays up for a while but the decent ones go pretty quick (when they are priced right) :approve:

Absolutely nothing wrong with the phase one.
Looks are subjective and not exactly worlds apart, but I think the front end of the phase one shades it. Put 18's onto a phase one and it further improves over the phase two IMO.
The handling of the phase one in the dry is fantastic, perhaps not as good as the phase two, but both of them can turn against you in the damp.

Interior isn't great, but neither is the phase two in comparison to modern cars and the seating position of both could be greatly improved.

I had a phase one first and when I came to buying V6 number 2 only ever wanted a phase one again- budget was no issue-I just love the rawness of the original Vee and think it's curves are best suited to Iceberg so that's what I got again.

If you want a phase two for particular reasons (like preference of looks or newer interior) then wait for one.
If you just want a phase two because it "drives better" then there really isn't much in it and a test of a phase one would be worth your while.
