Petrol filler cap not flush

As per title, the cap does not sit flush in the housing and is on a bit of a jaunty angle?

Is this normal?

yep!

Most of them seem minorly wonky.

Some have shimmed with rubber washers to get them to sit flush.
But yep, common v6 imperfections.

Yeah it's an easy fix using either rubber or cork washers as Russo says

Surely if it was shimmed it would protrude further away from the surround?

I have straightened mine up.

I simply used double sided foam tape built up at an angle and it works a treat.

I bought some cork sheet on ebay, and made a complete new gasket to pack the outer ring out. Absolutely perfect fit now. Easy, cheap fix.

I take it you just undo the allen head bolts and it pops of?

Yes, its a very simple job for everyone. Just make a copy of the gasket. If you dont have wad punches, just use a domestic hole punch for the bolt holes in the gasket. The punch size is ok.

Do you remember what thickness cork you used?

It was 1.5 mm
