Parts

As the vee becomes rarer what parts do people think are worth getting now and keeping hold of. The gt turbo bits - such as gear knobs go for silly money now (£200 upwards for something that cost £40 back in the day from Renault).

I've got a set of bumpers in the loft and wheels but is it worth buying the smaller bits new from Renault to keep in storage....? Anyone else began hoarding parts?

I think you could be onto a sensible idea to be honest, although you kind of have to weigh up "buying for the sake of it" and "buying because you will need it". Certainly body pannels are a key "part" which i cannot see getting any cheaper, ever! Other items could include suspension parts which are unique only to the vee. Various other parts are shared with the 1*2 range so will always be easy to pick up.

Your normal wear and tear items i wouldnt worry about too much as some of these are "non" reanault parts anyway (ie brake setup etc) so could be found if needs be. Interesting about the gear nob, i swear these are always expensive for any "rare" car.

Ive just had a similar thought about parts Ive taken off the car... Ive got the original seats in storage and the rear exahaust and link section. Im very tempted to take the exhaust to the tip, but I cant bring myself to do it!

I have all the interior trim parts that have been altered to fit my hand controls stored for when im too old to transfer into the vee. Then when the controls are taken off and i pass the car onto my son (who is only one year old now) he can put it back to OE... so yes going by his age Im planning a long way ahead.

Otherwise I hope I won't need too many parts.

Ian

I've got the exhaust and seats spare, the parts possibly worth getting could be the plastic parts which fade. I also believe that there are no more suspension sets available.

Gear knob and the alcantara cover
Toolbox in the boot
The net behind the seats?
Fog lights
Original steering wheel (particularly with the Ph1)
Front luggage tray
The pins/fasteners for the engine covers etc.
Boot struts (Ph2) being smaller for the spoiler

It seems the small things people want when there tidying up/restoring a car. I agree though that body parts are worth keeping also. I have zero things collected!

Starting to build a small stock pile of bits. More so for myself incase i break them!

I think bodypanels, suspension & wheels will be the most valuable parts in years to come.

Keep hold of all your exhausts too, one day they will be hard to get hold off and worth something. Especially as so many get upgraded and very few cars have the original exhaust.

Thanks for the exhaust parts Dan, it would have been a crime to put it in the skip.

Nigel.
