On the lookout for one...

Hi all,

I recently sold my Honda Civic FD2 Type R because I wasn't using it properly anymore (more motorway miles than anything else). I was going to buy something with more straight line poke that would provide more comfort when doing the motorway miles but could also be quite fun on the right roads (was thinking Audi S4, BMW 135i or similar) but I've had a change of heart after purchasing a £650 Fiat Punto Diesel to keep me on the road whilst I was looking for the right car.

It's been a revelation and quite liberating. The Punto costs peanut to run, does the daily slog no bother, and I no longer find myself parking in the furthest spot from the shop when doing the supermarket run because another dint or scratch would just blend in with the hundreds of others!

I'm now thinking I may as well run something like this day to day and leave my 'good' car at home and use it solely to be enjoyed.

Owning a Clio V6 is an itch I've always wanted to scratch, having had a 172 and Trophy in the past, but the impracticality of it has always put me off. With my current thinking this wouldn't be an issue so I think it's about time I scratched the itch.

The blue example at Targa Florio cars is tempting but Chichester is a hell of a long way from me (Warrington) so I was wondering if anybody here knew of the history of the car as I'm only likely to travel that far to purchase and not just view?

Cheers,
Hoz

Hi Hoz,

First off, pay up for full membership. We have a register with info on the vast majority of UK cars which has saved a lot of people from buying dogs in the past. Well worth the investment if you're serious.

If you do come to look, let me know. I know the cars pretty well mechanically etc. and live just down the road from the dealer.

I went to see it before I bought the one in Herts - both still shown on Pistonheads. The one at Florio (Chichester) looked very nice but had been used for track days and it had a bit of a tapping noise from the engine when first started. I could have had it for 14K with 2 new pilots fitted on the back, but chose the other one. The only problem with mine was a broken drive shaft which was fixed - the car is currently with Rentech where Mike is doing the cambelt and a full service and check. Mileage on both cars is the same (16000). The Florio one had the extra suspension which apparently improved the handling. I don't know whether I chose the right one or not - only time will tell - good luck with your search.

I think I know were theres a nice Iceburg Phase 1 with about 33K on the clock. I used to own it and did a swop with cash adjustment for my new car .
The guy who now owns it (or did) lavishes time and money on his cars and hardly uses them, I'd be suprised if he's done 1 K miles in it in a year.
He'd done 1600 miles in two years he'd had the car I got off him.
PM me if you want his e-mail address, he's not that far from Chichester if you want to check it out.
I had the belts etc done at 32k miles.

Cheers for the welcome all!

It's the phase 2 I'll be going for.

Not keen on the one at Florio now after your comments V6veteran. Couldn't see it on the register so thanks for the info.

I'm in no hurry so I'll wait until the right car comes along. Having already sold my previous car I'm in a position to jump when it comes along. Only problem is that they always seem to be hundreds of miles from me...

When you find he right one, do it. I live in Brighton and bought mine from the scottish borders, flew up and stayed over night. 24 hours out of your life for the right one....... :approve:
