@ClarkieV6

Oh Yes, he's still going strong, last year still rallying tarmac with his wife as copilot. :shock:

He's still into the old 5turbo, 4R6 and the escorts.

Complex and interesting stuff (I used to study physics at postgrad level).

One of my freinds is midway through a PHd on the subject of mathematically modelling airflow (aeronautical applications).

It sounds like a VERY chaotic system in the inlet manifold. Does anybody (F1 etc) actually try to mathematically model it in its entirety, or even just in sections?

Peter
P.S. Good to hear some balanced thoughfull posts. With a Excellent lack of arguments. :D

At levels such as F1, lemans or any motorsport where they design the engine from ground up, they will most definately model the entire port and enine system in a pulsed form before anything even comes close to being made. CFD is quite common place addition on several CAD packages and is useful, but modelling a port is timely and costs alot to get spot on as CNC replication will be required by 5 axis, and thats well over £100,000 for a cheap 4 1/2 axis package.

All F1 engines look at the whole system from inlet, engine to the exhaust.

You have heard an engine when the exhaust springs a leak or a weld gives up.

@Ray,
Although I haven't done any work with BenR, due to the fact that I'm just too busy, and for the moment more concentrate on my Renault5 turbo groupB specs;

I can only say out of my experience in discussing things with him that he surely knows what he is talking about and is very open in his discussions. This indicates to me that he doesn't perform any socalled black box magic work, nobody can explain.

And if it matters to you he handles quite reasonable pricing for the work.
