New vs. Old School Porsche Owners........

I think these two videos illustrate the difference between the two groups of owners:
LINK :salut:
LINK :s, but it has nothing to do with the cars featured!

Oooooooft.......The 964 has never looked so right! They, along with all other air cooled porka's, have to be the best ageing cars out there. Maybe now a lot of petrol heads, like myself, are realising they were very much ahead of their time in the cool and pure factor. I loooooove them.

Couldn't agree with you more.

The 964 has all the right proportions - IMO the 964 RS is the pick of the bunch, but then I am biased. ;)

Always been a massive 964 fan! Was seriously tempted to go for one instead of another Vee.

Unfortunately I'm a couple of years late & think decent ones have appreciated out of reach now. :(

Wasn't there some issues with no gaskets on the 964 and oil leaks?

Curious because in my looking at Porsches at the mo seen a manual targa 4 with a stupendous 21k miles in it over here recently - not sure if it will go up in value or as much as a coupe 964

Guys asking 30k for it but I'm sure can bargain down!

They do, but that is due to high mileage and improper (or lack of) maintenance. With preventative maintenance such issues can be avoided, or minimised.

Personally I am not a fan of Targas (of any age) and Tiptronics, but 964's in general have appreciated in value over the last 2 years (except for the 964 Turbo's and RS', which have gone ballistic since 2011, 2 years after I sold my mint RS Lightweight ). In 2012, one could have picked up a good, standard 964 up for less than £20K. IMO the rapid upward momentum, quite apart from most classic cars going ballistic over the past couple of years, is because the 964 was the last 911 that resembles the classic wedge shape, and of course it is air cooled.

Having said that, if you can get the Targa you refer to above to for £25K or so then it will not loose money. 2014 has seen some form of renaissance as far as the Targa is concerned, with a very early example selling at auction for a sum close to $200K! I really don't understand why though. :s

Note however the reason for my first post was more to do with new vs. old school Porsche OWNERS, rather than the cars themselves - IMO they are two very different breeds.

Thanks for posting Dulan :salut: a classic comparison of the analogue versus digital era's, good to see that Porsche still offer a manual box in a car aimed at the modern day enthusiast [cmilie=iconcheers.gif] as well as the usual flappy paddle contraption

Here is a superb, summarised version of a standard 964 C4 that had covered 120,000 miles having an engine upgrade from 3.6 litre to 3.8 litre, and a few goodies from the 964 RS: LINK

Would love to do something like this one day, as this video has really brought back how much I miss my 964 RS Lwt (best car I have driven to date)! :(
