New Vee Owner

Redsalive

New Member
Hi everyone. I've been looking for a Vee for quite a while now and finally put a deposit down on a ph1 Vee. Should be picking it up in a week or two due to waiting for a private reg change. The last 3 cars I've had are a 172, 182 and a mk 5 R32, however after test driving the vee I knew I had to have it!
The original reg is ET51 MVH and it is number 710. It is immaculate, much credit to the previous owner who has cherished it and is gutted to let it go, I was wondering if anyone has any info on this car? Also the gearshift is very close, not as I expected (possible ph2 box)?

Any info would be greatly appreciated [smilie=yay.gif]

Also any tips for driving in the wet?

Welcome to the forum, you will love every second of it. I'm a new owner too, only been an owner for 3 weeks. It is bloody brilliant. Looking on the register 710 appears to be unknown to the forum, but I'll be glad for somebody to correct me.

:welcome: to the forum Andy, sure you'll love the vee after your last motors.

Be wanrned they do get under your skin :approve:

Just make sure the rear tyres are good and take it easy ;)

:welcome:

As it's no. 500+ it must be an import.
That's not a bad thing - if you do a search 'import' you'll learn of the minor technical differences (I can only recall the tracker omission).

It's not impossible that it has a retro-fitted Mk II box - if so, just celebrate. [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

Driving in the wet will be a challenge. I own a MK I, but it has a retro-fitted Mk II rear-subframe and KW3 suspension... Nonetheless, I drive like a pussy in the wet! :rofl:

Thanks for making me feel welcome [smilie=thanks.gif]

Interesting about the short shift... It does have a quicksilver exhaust which sounds great which the current owner said was on when he bought it ( about 7 years ago) maybe the owner before him liked to tinker..

Can't wait to get it home. I really enjoyed my R32 which had full leather recaros dsg gearbox etc etc.. The only problem with it was that it was just too detached, ie to drive one was like playing a ps3 game. So the only solution was to buy a completely bonkers RWD short wheelbase V6 :rofl:

Go to Bedford autodrome on a wet trackday.. turn in...and be utterly shocked at just how quick a little understeer can whip into full oversteer and you'll need to hone you Jedi skills to catch it with so little lock available... An endlessly entertaining challenge which makes V ownership so special... Welcome to a brilliant forum, these guys know their stuff.

Welcome, and thanks for introducing yourself!

Little history is known about the car, i have only one photo of it from 2010 in my archive, could of been the owner put it up for sale back then but changed his mind?

Is/was the numberplate plate CR51GUP? If so, that looks a very tidy car!! :approve:

It may have the short shift kit, or may of had a ph2 gearbox put in - (highly unlikely it would of had the box from new due to age). Either would be a nice little bonus. The only way to really tell is to read the part number on the gearbox:

PK6012 = mk1
PK6017 = mk2

Driving in the wet is fine really, just do things a little slower, dont turn in too fast or two hard, dont put your foot down until in a straight line, watch out for slippery man hole covers. Also, make sure you have decent tires for wet roads!!!

Enjoy!! :race:

Congrats. Sounds a good car - get some pictures up when you can.

Short shift is definitely a nice option to have! 8)

thanks for all your comments peeps, the good advice you have given is very welcome 8)

im in the new fanley area roystino but wont be getting the car for another week or so :rollseyes:

you are correct about the number plate ddouble thanks for digging :bow:

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you love your new car! (I'm sure you will).

I'm over 5 years and counting with my Vee and I still love it to bits!

:welcome:

Well I have my new Vee and very pleased, it already has celebrity status in my neighbourhood 8)

However, because it has a quicksilver exhaust could anyone lend me some ear plugs or possibly advise me on how to purchase a Perspex bulkhead? [smilie=icon_eek.gif]
