New Vee Owner Saying Hi... Finally

Hi all

As some of you may know, I purchased Nigel's (Cold Fusion's) Vee from Ford RS Direct (thanks Sam Bignell for posting the photo!!!!), and it is indeed true I own a green RS. Was a bit of a pallava trying to arrange insurance to get her home as I couldnt get my girlfriend insured on my Focus, but could on the Clio..... Then when I properly sorted insurance out when I got home, the Clio was more expensive than the RS......

Anyway....just wanted you guys to know that she will be well looked after, so much so I have already started on the list of things to do

1) Air Con - Not working, now fixed after a re-gas, however I think I can hear the bearings in the compressor starting to fail.
2) Front headlights flicker on and off when going over a bump (looking at this today)
3) Will send her to a detailing company in Maidenhead (not sure if forum rules state not to mention company names) to have any paint blemishes corrected

Ive got to say, this is one special little car, my dream car is a Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 or almost anything Group B. I like a car thats different and the little Vee, is exactly that.

:welcome: Martin, and congrats of picking up a very nice example.

Sounds like your going to enjoy it alot!!

What a cracking pair of cars to own.

Hi Martin welcome to the forum mate. Fancy bringing the new purchase on the Lake District meet next month?

Welcome to the fold Martin.
: )
Sounds like the Vee is getting some well deserved star treatment.

Have a look through the archives on here regarding air con. A few people have detected the presence of a small leak causing loss of performance (after first forking our for a re-gas).
It's usually a simple fix.

Thanks all for the welcome

@ddouble - The RS is a wonderful car to own, practical fast and makes a very sexy noise

@Matt - Jury is out on the lake district one, might have to be a last minute thing as I don't know what work I will have on at that time

@kett - I will certainly check that out, no point in wasting money unnecessarily!

@Lankan - You are not too far away from me it seems!

Again, thanks for the welcomes.

Martin, where are you based - on my phone so cannot readily see your profile details.

That makes 3 Illiads in the same area - 2 x Phase 2's and 1 x Phase 1. We can have a mini meet sometime.

Hey Dulan

I'm in Staines, so Hillingdon is only about 10 miles away :)
Indeed Martin, that is close enough.

I used to work close to Egham, or should I say my offices were based close by, so familiar with the area. Used to frequent the Blue Iguana often, but haven't been since 2006 after I moved companies.

Martin / Dulan
I think a 3 way illiad blue mini meet would be cool
even though mine would be the shabby one

@Matt

The focus is most definitely a touch quicker, not by a lot, but I find the vee needs some beans to get it moving whereas the focus just keeps on pulling hard from 2.5k. Motorway driving MPG is almost exactly the same, maybe with the vee a little better. Urban driving the focus is quite good. Seems an urban myth about the RS being juicy, the ST is actually slightly worse.

Of course the focus is way more practical, quieter, more refined, cheaper parts, however the servicing is not a great deal cheaper than what I have read about the vee.

Handling wise, you can get away with a lot more in the focus, but in the right hands I would say they are quite comparable.

Which is more fun?

Both the same really! I would perhaps go on to say that the vee slightly more so due to the back seat passenger noise.

Now if I compare both to my other car, peugeot 205 GTi, the peugeot is an absolute hoot, due to it being so light, but as it has only 1 safety device, the seat belt, the sphincter tends to go from 50p to 20p a lot more. Compare them all to the car before the focus, astra vxr nurburgring edition, the vxr is rubbish in terms of feedback to the driver and general handling feel

welcome Martin, that's one of my old cars, the wax on it must still be 3" thick , It's certainly been well looked after,

Mick,
The wax is 3.5 inches thick it's added 10kg to the weight of the car.

Martin,
I am so sorry that i have neglected the car in the past 6 years I will try to do better with the Focus.
