New owner saying hello

Ohms

New Member
Hi all,

I have just purchased a rather nice phase 1 V6 so wanted to introduce myself before the barage of new owner questions started.

I have always wanted a Clio V6 but sadly seem to have missed the boat into 255 ownership as prices seem to have increased dramatically over the past year or so.

This car is the last one on my sub £20K cars to own list and I'm truly hoping that it gets so under my skin that the sub £50K list can remain in the drawer! ;)

:salut:

Welcome aboard.......please share details and pictures of your new acquisition.

Good timing, since the Phase 1 may just not stay a sub-£20K car for long.........

Enjoy!

:welcome:

Add your new car to the register if you wish. ;)

Ask anything at all, you'll get good honest answers here.

Welcome, please do tell us more about your car!

both the 230 and the 255 have their individual charms, so you haven't missed out by owing either!

The Clio v6 can really get under peoples skin (it definitely has with me) and may well be a 50k car someday. :approve:

Thank you all.

Still trying to sort insurance as I haven't collected the car yet. I was surprised to learn that classicline don't offer policies on the clio V6 yet. I used them on my BMW M Coupe and was hoping to do the same again.

Any other suggestions for limited mileage, 2nd car policies for near 40 year old. :)

Speak to Hagerty - they do a good multicar policy, if that is what you are after, and the Clio V6 is definitely included......a good company to deal with.

Will do thank you. I have been with flux on my VX220 Turbo but I don't like the company so don't want to use them again.

Car arrived today and I am really, really pleased with it.

It's done 39K and had 3 previous keepers. cambelt was last done in 2013 at 36K.

Getting off on the fact that it is parked in my garage!!! [smilie=yay.gif]

You know it's a special car when you can spend an hour just gawping at it stood still. Don't think a lambo or ferrari could feel anymore special.

I haven't changed my opinion of the interior though. the blue plastics are just as awful as I remember them in my sisters 1.2 clio. But a quick scan around the cabin reveals that it's only the dash top, sterring column cowl, speaker covers and carpets so is easily sorted to my taste.

The car isn't low mileage enough for me to worry about the OE spec originaity thing so I am happy to make changes and improve matters where I want to...think i've bought a keeper!!!

Quick question...the silver painted centre console and gear surround feels oddly tacky and gluey. What is that all about??

thanks ;)

You'll find that the door pull is like that as well. These parts had a sort of rubberised finish, which feels nice when it's new, but goes sticky over time. My Ph1 is like that, but my Ph2 is fine. I have a theory that using cleaning product / silicons reacts with the rubber skin to make it tacky. My Ph2 car has never had any such product used on it, whilst my Ph1 was cleaned every week!

The only remedy seems to be to scrape the original finish off and re-paint.

If the dash top is that main blue culprit it may worthwhile finding a replacement from another Clio to re-cover / re-paint, and keep the original hanging up in the garage.

Thanks Mark.
The door pull is perfect which I found surprising. In fact it looks to me as though both door pulls have been resprayed as they are definitely laquered.

It also has a nice new gear knob which I found surprising considering its first registered keeper for 6 years was female.
Apparently the car was sold through a Renault main dealer in 2013 and it looks as though the mild interior resto was part of the pre-sales prep. Cambelt was also done by them at this point.

Lower model spec plastics is what I was thinking also, keep the originals safe for the future.

;)
