I've recently got back after a very long day.
I got up this morning at 7am after only sleeping for about 3 or 4 hours, I got myself organsised and caught the train from Ipswich to Littlehampton in West Sussex. I arrived in Littlehampton at 1pm and met with James (chocolatemonk) with the hope of buying his car.
I had a look around, looked through all the paperwork and a few hours later I was the new owner of 321.
I clled the insurers to accept the quote I'd been previously been given. Nope not possible. It needed to be refered to underwriting as they were unsure what a clear engine cover was and actually did. This was despite this already been cleared up the first time I called and the second. They said I'd have to wait and I couldn't insure until underwriting came back to me. Annoyed was not the word, the propsect of having to leave the car, uninsured, and come back another day was not something I wanted to do. Fortunatley, 20 minutes later the insurers called me back and gave me the all clear. What a relief!
Now came the journey back, It was an experience. I stopped at Halfords to get a few things and out of the window, whilst paying, I could already see a man walking around the car, occasionally pressing his face against the glass to peer inside. I had only had the car 45 minutes. I stopped twice at service stations and both times I had people come and talk to me about the car, one older chap in particular was very fond. "It must go some" he kept saying. I also made use of the limited front storage space which amused me greatly.
People really do stare continuously. Prior to today i thought you were all exagerating ith regards to the number of people that come and say 'Hello' and the number who stop and just stare. Madness.
I love the car. James made some fantastic changes to the car. The interior dash, steering wheel, pillars, roof lining and carpets have all been completely redone, making it a much nicer place to be. The belts etc were all done 1000 miles ago, which is something I was looking for!
It absolutely tipped it down for about 70 miles and I didn't dare go above 50mph! The car however was faultless on the nearly 200 mile trip home. Pleased is not the word!
Pictures to follow.
