My Vee went in the huff tonight!

So out for a rare trip in the v6 before round some DIY places for the new house, went to leave homebase to head home and unlocked it and got in

Turned ignition on and wait a second as usual, no problems so far
When I go to start the car there was a click and the car was then dead, no power or ignition!
Got out, removed the bonnet liner, no problems with any terminals, everything nice and tight

Back in the car, phone dad for advise and as he is about to head out with some jump cables a couple of minutes later I hear the CD changer going through its cycle (ignition is off at this point) so I turn ignition on, dash lights up, car starts and seems fine

Tried it again back home a few times, starts first crack every time!

Any ideas? Car is kept on a c-tek trickle all the time also

Maybe a dodgy connector in the relay box in the boot ? You don't have things slide about in there do you ? Sliding items knocking relays in the boot can cause starting and ignition issues ...

I had something similar on the 182 Colin, turned out battery was on it's last legs. Try getting the battery checked under load when starting. Mine showed a good 12ish V but under load dropped off and didn't have enough 'kick' in it to power immobiliser, electrics and starter. Turns out the immobiliser didn't drop out and car wouldn't turn over. How's the dash computer? That used to also reset itself when it happened. New battery sroted everything out :approve:
Hope you find the problem pal as the intermittent faults can be hard to trace!!!

Martin nothing sliding around at all, boot and bonnet tray are totally empty

Phil, the dash computer / radio etc are all reset and radio needs the code put in etc indicating a complete loss of power like the battery has been disconnected??

I think a new battery will be my first port of call, it may well be the original one? What brand was used from the factory?

this happened on my old clio(ok not a v6) just turned out to be a battery! failing that move onto aux belt etc

Eurocarparts always have offers on battery's Colin so have a look at there website.

I'm sure they sell the Bosh Silver Batterys aswell

Thread bump :

Just to update I've never changed or done anything and this has never happened again [smilie=doubt.gif]

I did join the AA though just incase :approve:

The beginning of your starter motor failing, the magnets come away inside the body due to the heat from the exhaust manifold. Mine went in the petrol station had to ask for a push to get it started.

They are a pain to change

Colin,Same happened to me 2 weeks ago,Saying goodbye to a relative in a Grave yard in Birmingham,Jumped into car and nothing. What a place to let you down !!.Tried again few minutes later and it just started ,Next day nothing so put another battery on and its been fine. Batt was original from new,So lasted well !!.
