My summer strip and rebuild with pics that now work

Chris V6

New Member
I was changing phones and going through my pics and found these, as I went to all the effort I thought I would post the work. It was one of those jobs I wish I had not started as it cost a small fortune and consumed my life for weeks. The idea was it would be a small (ish) job that would be done at the start of the summer then it would be mint for the rest of it and I could enjoy it between my trips back from abroad but as it never stopped raining and the job took a lot longer than I first thought it has never been anywhere since. I know most of you will think its a waste but I am pleased with it. I basically took everything off from underneath suspension springs nuts, bolts, screws everything that was either replaced or refurbished. Half of it you will never see but I knew it was there. Must say a big thank you to the bodyshop (Gary @ GT Body Repairs - Kings Norton)who were very accommodating as I must have been there biggest headache whilst they were doing the work I was there more than my house !! I spent so many hours down there cleaning the underside whilst they were sorting all the bits.

so

some of the bots removed, I suspect the previous owner drove it in the rain !!

Weird images, I tried uploading one of them to our gallery. Message: "The upload was rejected because the uploaded file was identified as a possible attack vector."

Use Photobucket ;)

Oh and James yes I can still do this, though of course you will know that I don't normally - feel free to revoke this privilage is you so wish ...

its still not showing grrrrr, this is driving me nuts is there a link of a how to host them ?

Set up a photobucket account Chris and then link them in.

I can see them all, perhaps it is creating a unique photo URL based on the user session or something - I can still see the pictures but did notice the URL seems to re-generate dynamically ...

They look fantastic BTW

It is indeed Martin.

Chris I've put many of them into our gallery for you. LINK

Just copy and paste the Image BBCode: into your post for each pic.

Holy moly that's clean!

Explain!! Did you replace alot/soda blast bits? Looks incredibly clean!

Well done!

A lot of hard work there M8 where did you get the coating done at, there not just sprayed silver are they, they look to good, well done, looks brand new

The first idea was that I would replace most of the parts like for like with OEM parts as I wanted it to be original and as it rolled of the line, so after a lot of hassell with part numbers, much money and a head ache for Paul from Renault parts direct and James lots of bits arrived and although still in un open packing, things like the bolts were tarnished and not the finish I expected. So I found a plating company in West Brom and they were treated in various ways depending on what they were i.e. some being glass blasted, some soda, then acid dipped then the plating process being barrel and magnetic I think again depending on the part with the end result being a perfect finish.

The plating company were not overjoyed as they normally do big stuff and all my bits were hassell and some went through a few times to get the right finish. Also when you arrive with 2 screws that I forget to get done and you ask them to stick through the process thats a fun conversation. (most of their work arrives on 44 tone trucks) !

The only bits that were painted were the things that were already painted like the springs all other bits back to original spec, less the random wax oil overspray. The only non OEM spec bits are the 8 screws that hold the under trays on, they are now BZP rather than the dull finish that comes as standard.

That, sir....is amazing!!!! [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

As said in your other topic, now you have the unfortunate conundrum as to what to do with the car, once you drive it anywhere, even in the dry...they will never be quite as clean ever again which slightly defeats the purpose... The only alternative is to go to car shows and park on mirrors
