Moving the ABS unit

Right,

This is my next big (and quite daunting) project i've got to undertake on VEW.

Basically, i've got to move my ABS unit backwards, as close to the bulkhead and as far away from the gearbox as possible.

The reason for this is that i can't fit a top gearbox mount as the ABS unit is in the way, and my engine isn't sitting right without it fitted and it's not tight enough.

Question is, how hard do you think it'd be with the engine in situe?

I've had a quick look and it looks like the cables for the ABS unit will reach, i think i'll probably need new brake pipes made up though?

imo i'd rather move some pas pipes and get a GTT rear mount mate. no messing wth brake lines then.

I can imagine that being an absolute nightmare with the engine in situe TBH :(

More so than having some new brake lines put in

Has anyone actually attempted to use a R5 rear mount with a power steering rack on a valver?

How hard is it to do?

What parts are needed to fit the rear mount? Does it make the engine as solid as when you have the top gearbox mount? I want the engine as stiff as possible...

Think you need to use a 19 16v rack... as the ps pipes run different.. but thats only a think lol

PS... off topic your valver sounded very nice at FCS

i got mine on the valver Pas rack, had to bend one of the pipes tho but it didnt kink or nothing. the rubber pipe shouldn't be a problem either tbh.

should be easy to do matteh had flexible pipes made up for his..

Ok it looks like taking the rack off and modding it is the way forward!

Can the rack be easily taken out with the engine in place?

Does anyone have a picture of a R5 rear mount showing how it fits?

Cheers for all the advice :D

And cheers Winston, Mongoose FTW :P

Thought about that but in a weird way i kinda like it :D

Makes me chuckle when it randomly cuts in lol

mine never cuts in! :D

i removed my rack with the engine in place to fit my new pipes - not hard to do at all really, just need a bit of patience - i assume you know how it all bolts in etc?

pinch bolt to column, 4 bolts from back of subframe, 2 go through to nuts that need to be counter held, one bolt on top in middle of back arch of the subframe that holds the main pas solid pipe in place ,track rod ends undone from hubs then just the flexi connections to fluid system. fiddly tho in situ, and need to remove wheels etc to slide it out the side

i had to cut mine down to allow for boost pipes but you wont need to

pipes look mashed from previous engine removal/installation attempts

i fitted he bracket to the box when engin was in also, was fookin awkward but do-able!

Cheers for the pics, great help!

So where does the bracket actually bolt to? Does it bolt where the black bracket for the dogbone fits?

Does this mean i can't use Coops solid dogbone? :(

Looks like it might get in the way of the manifold heatsheild too? i could be wrong

bolts to top of subframe, my dogbone bracket is still there underneath on the subframe unused. you wont need the coops mount when u got this one. my engine is rock solid.
