Monkey is a genius, cooling issues sorted!

A big thanks to monkey for sorting out the cooling issues on my vee ( and probably lots of others !). Basically the car would not fully warm up and was hovering round teh bottom of the gauge. I thought it was just the cold weather or the vee had really good cooling !

Changed my thermostat and the rubber gasket today and now it is sorted , temp gauge is bang on the middle, the car is quieter and now not seeming to run on its choke ! Awesome thanks again!

if any one is geting the same problem would totally recommend getting it sorted , easy enough to do , took about 3 hours with the engine covers of and some swearing!

Long live this forum, good work ! [smilie=icon_cheers.gif]

What was the part number of your thermostat Dave ? And did you get it from the dealer down Sealand Road ?

Having the same problems with mine, in fact been like that since I got it and read Moneys thread and plan to do the same :-)

Martin

Hi Chaps,
Yeah I'm having the same symptoms and after monkeys advice im going to do the same asap.
Having just read your post Martin seeing "sealand road" realised ur in Cheshire, i live just outside Chester . Had the cambelts done at sealand road last week (Lookers).
Steve

Hi all, yeah got it from lookers on sealand road, i think the thermostat was fine, changed it though , but it was the little £3 rubber gasket that i changed that was the problem, the inner rubber part had peeled back and was stopping the thermostat moving in and out , and so the car was not keeping its temp right , so make sure you get both !
Just been through the recycling to get the part numbers !

Thermostat - R 9617028380 £18
Gasket - R 9616838180 £5.15

Cheapest fix on a vee ever - has to be !!

it is a bit of a fiddle, if any one wants a hand or advice happy to help thse local to chester! oh and you will need a few litres of antifreeze, you dont need to totally drain the system.

good work again Monkey , went out in it last night , warmed up properly in about 5 mins despite the thermometer on the dash reading mius two, and didnt budge form the mddle of the temp gauge. Car was going the best it ever has as well. big smiles!

I had taken my Vee into the dealers twice before its warranty ran out once for servicing and the other for it's first MOT/warranty expiry check, and both times reported and described the underheating issues - which they recorded but diagnosed as 'no fault'. They did say they would record this in case a future issue occurred outside of warranty so that it could be fixed as a pre-existing fault ...

So I thought today before ordering the above service parts, I would give the service team a ring and see if they can do the work as a deferred warranty repair. Turns out, even if they agreed to do it as a warranty job I still have to pay £47 up front for diagnosis which I may or may not get back. In addition, it would appear this £47 worth of diagnosis I now have to pay for was NOT done on the previous 2 times I reported the issue ...

Hmmmm I am smelling the usual rat here ...

Maybe I will do it myself then :-)

Martin

i hate the 47 pound diagnosis chrage , best was on my 182 when the usual steering wheel rubbers came off, booked it in for a new one , as i knew it needed one, and they charged me 47 q uid to diagnose what i had told them! Like yours, stupid as you know exactly what is wrong with it ! Need to get my cruise diagnosed as not working , at least with that one i dont know why it's broken!

The dreaded diagnosis charge drives me insane!!! I just had to pay £90 for it the other week.

I booked it in telling them that a coil had gone. They said there is the £90 charge just to look at it. I then get a phone call telling me that it is a coil failure!!!! "Hello" I knew it had gone which was why I had booked it in!!!

I can understand the diagnosis charge but it should be a little more of a realistic price!! £90 is excessive!
I really feel it should then be offset against any work they do to your car to fix it.... You would not feel so ripped off then.
If you decide not to go ahead with the work they recommend then I think they are right to uphold the charge.

Sound like you have been double charged, hmmmm maybe once for each bank of cylinders !

Just spoke to my Renault dealer again, the gaskets can be ordered but are on backorder with France with a 5-10 day delivery. The thermostat seems to have no stock availability in France so needs to go on backorder with thier supplier ...

Anyone know of availability ?

My local motor factors say QH do the thermostat kit but this is a backorder item also.

Hi Steve was just wondering how much did they charge you for the cambelt change ? and did you get a new water pump fitted at the same time ?

Cheers,

Phill

Hi ppl,
Yeah just picked up the thermostat and seal from lookers... but i forgot the coolant derrrr. Waiting for some spark plugs (dealer wanter 15quid a plug so im ordering of euro parts for £6ish..the standard bosch 4s) anyway so ill do it all next weekend at the same time i reckon.
The coolant "Glaceol rx" is that only available from Renault ?

Steve

hi guys quick update,
Got the thermostat finished off today. On mine the thermostat itself was to balme, it was stuck in the open position, the seal was still securely in the housing so i just replaced the thermostat. Bit of a fiddly job but sorted now, was well worth doing as i changed my plugs at the same time and noticed the piper x had been fitted in reverse! (posted about that lastnight)
Its running well now , temp at half way
:)
cheers
Steve

, not sure about the black stuff you mention but as for the sealant mine goes under the straps , but there is a black cover over them like the one for the tool kit in teh so called boot.
another bonus i found today was after redoing the termostat and the seal, my cruise control now works again, it had packed in before, the only thing i can think of is there must have been a bad connection on one of teh plugs i undid to get to the termostat. BONUS! wont have to pay reno that 90 quid diagnostic charge! Hurrah! [smilie=icon_cheers.gif]

1) this could be due to my air filter being fitted wrong but during this work i noticed black gunk on the throttle body flap and then in the actual inlet ports (when removing the inlet manifold to change the plugs) is this normal? i have cleaned it all up now but i have some photos pre clean up if anyone wants to see, but not sure how to upload them?

Upload your pics to the v6cliobucket in the gallery. Then copy and paste the {album 123 /album] reference it generates.

Did my thermostat today (described in a separate write-up) ...

Turned out it was the washer which had become dislodged ... I took the opportunity to replace ALL of the coolant and also to remove the thermostat housing completely, which was actually quite simple ...

This forum is great for advice - thanks to Charlie :-)

That's a well known problem we already spotted on our French Forum. One of us brought his car to the local dealer and they found a dislodged washer as well. They fixed it then 1000Kms later, this guy met the same problem :s

So, I really hope you will be luckier. Don't know how to solve this issue... that's another pain with coils!
