MK1 Lowering....

KW Variant 3 - reduced on K-Tec's site. A number of us are running this and it's proven to be very good.

Does anybody know how low you can go whit a KW?
I have heard that H&R will go a lot lower than KW.
KW says you can lower the car 35 mm, I know...
But for my Mégane they said I could lower 60 mm, but after installing, we could lower it 90 mm...
I know that H&R lowers 60 mm without problems, and if KW can do this also, than I prefer KW.
If anybody knows, please let me know,

thanks.

I think lowering is not just a function of the car height off the ground, cause the Vee is very low already, it is also a question of effective suspension travel and quality of the suspension itself. This will be a balance between spring length, compression and thickness - you only have so much travel to play with in the strut tower and this is taken up as you reduce the ride height to a point where you have so little travel you cannot get a spring wound to offer any useful suspension.

If you get to the point where the car has no suspension ride will suffer and you could be in line for some even scarier handling and not realise any benefits other than perhaps the car looking 'slammed' ...

I agree with Klano on this one, just for consideration, a long suspensiontravel gives the best grip on the road, BUT on the negative side you lose precision in the handling.
To put it very blunt, the car with the most grip is a citroen 2CV. [smilie=icon_eek.gif] (take into acount the effective tirepatch).
Precision in handling isn't available though. So you need to find a balance between grip and feeling. Lowering a Vee is only usefull on a very flat course. In fact the front suspension is already too short as it is. You hit the bumpstop very easy there. That means in fact, no more control and feedback.

Yes, i know, but the H&R lowering is very good in handeling, as also the KW.
But I want to know if they go also as low as the H&R?
This because I find the Vee much to high :winky:

I have the H&R coilovers on my MK1. And they are :approve: . But be aware. I don't know that you guys needs a GOCA attest for the MOT. But here in Belgium we need the stupit paper. :( (For those ho don't know what goca meens. It's something like TUV). So after a call to the main distributor here in belgium, i found out that the h&r coilovers aren't build for road use, but for circuit use. So they haven't got a TUV approval. Thats why they aren't in the catalogue of H&R. So sadly i will have to sell my coilovers at the end of the year and by a set of kw coilovers.
