mk1 clutch change DIY possible?

Has anyone fitted a standard mk1 v6 clutch, my clutch feels fine but it had a cambelt change only a year ago and the previous owner did not have a clutch done which is a shame and i was wondering if anyone had fitted a standard mk1 clutch them selves.

Is it engine out or can it be done with removal of drive shafts and subframe? If it can be done this way roughly how long should it take.

The standard clutch looks to be cheap after doing a little search does anyone have a part number also the only one i could find was valeo, is that the only one available?

LUK is the original clutch, 3week back order at the moment (i got the last one!) You could do it on the driveway no bother, but you'd need an engine support frame to support the engine/lower the engine/box at an angle to get the box out

but be warned, the gearbox weighs a bloody ton! We struggle getting them back on with the engine on the deck (with engine out of the car) with 2 of us!

Took me and a mate an evening to do a box change on mine. Is no more difficult than any other car. I cant remember how we supported the motor now. Think we placed a bar across the top mounts and used a good ratchet strap. The box came out with a trolley jack.

ooh and you need the special tools to set the self adjusting clutch before it gets fitted to the car

I did mine alone so the gearbox can't be that heavy? Was a while ago though. Also took me an evening like Brett says.
Special tools are overrated in this case I think. All you need is to generate enough force to compress the clutch. The special tool uses a lead screw, I took the hydraulic press. Both work perfectly.

Phs1 or Phs2? (doesn't matter in terms of doing the job, but the Ph2 has the horrible dual mass flywheel and some people throw it away)

What would you propose, phase 1 clutch I have heard is prefered and what about the flywheel?

TTV do a phs1 flywheel, no idea on what they charge though!
