Missing my vee and it's only gone for 3 days.

Hi all, cambelt is due so the vee has gone to a local garage who are used to having a few fees in the past. Really helpfull guys who really know there stuff with high end cars ( porsche m3 m5 etc ) and are only happy to help with an enthusiast car nut like us lot . Got a phone call yesterday before the engine came out stating the end nut holding the drive shafts on are quite rusty and if they don't come off too easy I should prepare my self for buying two new shafts. Ouch ,,, but after soaking them with lube all morning the nuts each side came off ok. So the engine was finally dropped and I went along to have a look. Every thing looked really impressive and the mechanic said its crazy to have such a large lump in these cars which just adds to the appeal lol. The engine and bay is all dry and clean . new belt and water pump was on and when examining the old belt it looked hardly used in the 20k miles i have done in 5 years. The Old Water pump was good too but this being the second c/b change I thought it best to do. Also having all fluids changed and a service aux belt etc etc and tracking after. Did find a small crack in the rear cat casing and they managed to get a weld on it to strengthen it as I thought it was a bit blowy but had passed mot on emissions . Renault wouldn't take the initiative to do that on the drive shafts or cat. I would just get a bigger bill at the end. before I took the car to this garage I called two local Renault dealers for a price for the work i want done and a woman on the service desk didn't even know what car I was talking about and when asking for a break down on price they seemed to add each job together as individual and totalled almost 3 grand. I asked how many times the engine would be comming out and going in for that amount. Any way engine is back in today and will be picking up Monday/ Tuesday and I can't wait as like I said above on a nice day I miss driving it no end. I will see how she drives and feels next week and report back when I finally have to go home and get some sleep after driving around to make up for the loss in driving for a week lol [smilie=yay.gif]

All sounds good Jim, looks like you've found a very helpful independent garage there. Let us know how you get on, and if you think its worthy... maybe add your garage to the "Dealer List" :approve:

I know exactly how you feel - mine in getting a few bits done just now (oil cooler, rear brake pads, general service) but because the oil cooler is on back order from Renault, going to be without the car for about a week.

Using local independent Renault specialist this time out (Rentec in Edinburgh) and very happy with the service from them.

Will make up for it thought - got a trip to Applecross in a couple of weeks time which takes in some of my all time favourite roads :race:

Enjoy getting back on the road Jim :approve:

Is it a struggle to drive into Applecross in a vee ? Very narrow road and one very very tight bend!!

I did think there may have been a couple of the tighter corners Nas which might have actually needed a 3 point turn (!), but it was fine - the key to enjoying the pass is getting a clean run as it can get busy with caravans, motor homes etc and passing can be tricky, with some sheer drops off to the side to keep you focused [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

But some breathtaking scenery and nice wide flowing roads to be had either side of the pass. Last time up there I passed going the opposite direction a very nice GT Turbo who was also having some fun in the West Highlands :race:
