Megane Megane Magnetic Maxi

Hello
Im from Sweden and building a Megane I RS as renault never did.
My previous project was a R5GTE with F7p engine and clio II Rs gearbox, so this time I wanted more power.
A friend and I bought a megane I 2,0 16v coupe to use for endurance, the guy who owned that car had another megane coupe that he was planning to build like a maxi replica, about a year after we bought the first car I was offered to buy the second one with all the parts he had including the maxi kit and engines.
To get more power in the R5 I already had built a F7R turbo engine but Due to Swedish regulations I couldn't turbo the car as it was, to do that and be able to use it on the roads I have to build it like a " modified vehicle " and get it approved by a organisation called "SFRO" stands for Swedens vehicle builders organisations.
Minimum parts changed to get it approved is that I have to change Engine, gearbox, and brake system including mastercyl.
And to be able to rebuild the engine as I want "turbo" I have to run it on E85.
So my first plan to use the F7R engine wasn't good as there was a F7R in the car and therefore not changed engine even it had at turbo, a f7r car also have disk brakes at the back and changing those is a problem as the smaller Renaults don't have bigger disk brakes that fits.

So the next plan was to use a 1,6 megane coupe it has the wrong engine ,gearbox, drumbrakes. so I got one and started to build rear arches, then I got hold of a third car a 2,0 8v (f3r) the car was already fitted with a maxi looking kit (not standard maxi bumpers and so but wide :) the car was also painted in a similar colour that I was planning so I got a good start, the f3r also has the same engine mounts as the f7r with hanging engine and not standing like the 1,6 so I didn't have to fabricate that.

Next problem was that gearbox don't last the power from a turbo engine in the long run, so I got hold of a Megane II RS box ND0, some may say im stupid that I don't use a vw box but its a Renault and I want it to be that and the Nd0 can cope my power and I will make it fit. (but not to my F7r engine)
Best option was to build a F4r engine that fits to the box, so I got hold of a LAG II turbo engine yesterday.
The engine will have custom made inlet and outlet manifold, the inlet manifold will be fabricated with trottlebody on the other side (passenger in Sweden) so that the boost pipes will be reduced in length, and exhaust to get more free flowing, other injectors, cylinderhead will be "adjusted" and bottom end will have rods from the F7R turbo engine and I will try to measure the CR with F7r turbo pistons in it, I know it will be higher than in the F7r,but its ok as I run E85 with about 104 octane.
Turbo will be from a Saab 9-5 aero for starter.

The gearbox requires some other modifications like hydraulic clutch, cable shifter and no speedo outlet, so I will junk the pedals and will use a willwood instead.
The suspension isn't finished yet and I want to build the front suspension with Megane II RS double-axis hubs, but I cant find any in Sweden so I need help with that..

finished car will be
Laguna II turbo engine "modified"
Megane II RS box
Willwood pedals
Megane II RS hubs
Homebuilt coilovers with a twist :)
Megane cup rearaxle with coilovers made with wider hubs ( need help with that too if someone has some ideas or done it )
Hispec 325mm disks in front with 4pot and original disks at the back or Laguna I disks and calipers.
vems ecu

Welcome to our first (I believe) Swedish member?! :friends.gif:TurboRenault is going Global! :)

You have a great project in the making there mate, and I look forwards to reading more about it. We all forget how (relatively) easy it is in the UK to modify our cars however we wish? Reading your thread of what's involved to get it through the Swedish "SFRO" tests sound like a nightmare to what we would have to do in the UK!

Our member @Brucieboy is the chap you want to speak to about your project, he's done a Maxi Megane like yours.

I look forwards to reading more about your project! :friends.gif:

In sweden renault isn't a popular car. they have the reputation to be bad, volvo stopped many fun cars going here (renault is sold in volvo stores) and Swedish regulations stopped some.
We didnt get the R5GTT we got GTE, R19 16v but only in 5 door sedan (chamade) clio 16v (not willy) a few 182 (like 2-4 ) the 197 but not the 200, the 225 (but not the r26r as its not legal here) no F1 edition.
And a lot of models we didnt get at all. R9,R11,R21,R25,saffrane,velsatis,avantime mm
we also usually need to choose from a type of engine or a model that they think we want, not what renault could offer.

Not much done, trying to get parts.
Hubs still in france, rear cup coils in Holland (think i got driveshafts there too) 172 cams and special campulley in england.
Engine in pieces will get it bored to 83mm, had to damage oiljets to make that possible.
Have 630cc siemens deka injectors now.
So waiting for parts

Now have some parts home.
Engine rebored to 83 mm, pec conrods and wössner pistons, arp headbolts.
Got Rs driveshafts and front suspension and coilovers for my megane I cup rearaxle.
Special campulley for 172 cams and 172 cams.
Perfohubs is in denmark on its way home.
Now i need to make adapters from megane I cup wishbones to Rs hubs, to be able to test how things fit or not

Have got some Steel to get the adapters made, Will be delivered tomorrow.
Have found the last Rs parts i need, but they are still in UK, so i hope i get them.
