Megane 1.6e - emissions fail

Gentle Ben

Vee-Man
CO
2.2% (Limit 0.2%)
FAIL

HC
250ppm (Limit 200ppm)
FAIL

Lambda
0.9
PASS

It's had a new coil pack fitted which has remedied the misfire which we were told was causing the emissions failure, however it hasn't cured it.

We're being told the ECU needs resetting which 'should' cure it. Sounds like a stab in the dark more than anything.

If one of you kindly people can point me in the direction of the culprit sensor or the likely cause, it would be much appreciated.

By the diagram value 0,9 means 0,9V.

250ppm still says either misfire or its burning lots of oil.

2.2% CO backs up either a misfire or rich as hell running.

Change the cts, it will need done if its not been done.

An ecu reset can and will help emission’s, easiest way to do it is disconnect the battery and short the leads together, this will reset everything. Otherwise it will take a fair few drive cycles for it to reset accurately.

Lastly take it a good long drive, preferably at high speed or a low gear, this will make sure the cat get hot enough to get rid of any residual fuel etc thats in it.

Chances are the cat may still be done though, especially if its been run a long time like this.

Thanks for all the replies. We're having the ECU reset today so will see if that sorts it.

Hoping it's not the cat, we've just had the middle and rear sections renewed along with two new tyres, front brakes and a coil pack and the failure of the retest means another full MOT to pay for...
