McLaren P1 Driven.....

...and if we thought the Ferrari F40 was the ultimate old school super car, then the McLaren P1 has got to be the new technological tour de force: LINK

Would love to be a fly-on-the-wall at a factory like that - I am sure there are operating theatre's that are not as clean as that factory floor!

Did you also notice that Jay Leno has a strange driving style and sits way back in his seats - looks rather an uncomfortable driving position.

Can't wait till Chris Harris gets his hand on the P1 - would love to see a back to back test with the F1!

I owned an F40 for a couple of years in 2001 and now I've driven some other advanced super cars ( not the new Maca's yet ) I still think it is a car that will stand up in years to come !? The mclaren's are gorgeous but a friends F1 is £25,000 to service ! The F40 although if you break it isn't cheap but in two years servicing cost me £1,000.

I have to admit that one of the benefits of Vee ownership is that the financial stakes aren't that high. I don't think I could enjoy owning an F1 knowing there was a £25k service bill imminently. Maybe the owners have been consoled by the rising equity in F1s...
...and maybe the Ferrari dealerships will now hammer the F40 owners?

:))))
Strange thing thou ! Is owning an F40 and owning a Vee give exactly the same feelings !! Ok not the speed ! But the happy/ glowing/ pride etc etc
I miss my Vee more now both have gone :( it's a very strange feeling missing a Clio more than a Ferrari.

Feck me! That's less than what I spent on my vee when it first got it! Mind you, I'm glad I don't need to change the fuel tank after so many years.

That's right ! New fuel cell every 10 years !!! I didn't have it at 10 years old but I think it was £12,000 at official. Of course there are a couple of good specialists where it's cheaper. But then you start getting the official/not official question.

Oh and my GT3 had carbon brakes, I had ticked that option box ! A couple of mates had to replace theirs ( they did track days ) £6,000 option !! 18,000 to replace them !!!!!

Stick with V's

Indeed big mistake if you track them, but they should last a long while if only driven on the road. Too expensive nevertheless......don't think I would buy one with CC brakes (yellow callipers) for either road or track work. As you probably know the Alcon conversion worked a treat on track....

The carbons are awesome on track and road, the alcons not far behind but lasted and were cheaper for the track.
BUT when it's time to sell ? Everybody (2nd hand buyers) wanted the Carbons !!

The car I feared to ask how much the carbon brakes cost to replace.

The Carrera GT !! Huge Carbon brakes on that !! The carbon clutch was £10,000 !!! And it was notoriously easy to burn it out !!!

Really. Didn't think (or have noticed) a price premium for CC brakes on used 996 GT3 & RS...........I have the latter on my radar now, and would never buy one with CC brakes and nor would I pay a premium for it.

Indeed, the CGT is on another level - I believe the reason the clutch is easily burned out is because it is so small, which was by design in a bid to lower the car's centre of gravity and to keep its weight down, and tricky to get going without stalling, so many tend to slip the clutch quite a lot....

Well I guess Porsche have laid down the gauntlet with a time of 6:57 with the 918 Spyder
Seems like Ferrari has risen to the challenge: LINK

Can't wait to see the outcome of this......then I am sure it will force the McLaren P1 to make an appearance!

So did the P1 actually lap the ring in 6:47? If so, that would be mightily impressive

No official confirmation from McLaren as yet!

Seems like the P1's 'ring time was a result of someone's off-the-cuff comment going viral, but it seems like McLaren's PR and marketing strategy is not helping - PH: LINK
