Little help with paint code and shades on iceberg ph1

Hi guys I'm having some paint done to my car and trying to get a perfect match, my m8 is doing the work for me and after a few spray cards I'm not happy with the colour match and he isn't either , apparently the paint scheme he uses don't do a match for the Mv-iceberg-silver/grey-Bl. Anyway something to do with the colour only in use for less than 3-4 years so the develop team didn't bother on this scheme . So he had his paint manufactures out to look at it and they said its a bad colour to match as there are so many shades of it, and Sid they would come out today with a tool to scan the paint pigments . To then get it to within 3 shades

What I'm asking especially if there's any painters out there or any of you guys that ha had paint on the iceberg's ph1. And are nearly 100% happy with the match could you please find out the tins needed and the paint manufacturer they have used to get a good match , I am fully aware that most time it needs to be blended into adjoining panels for the seamless match but these sprat cards where miles out, and he no's what he's doing and I'm just trying to move things forward for me as this guy didn't turn up today with this tool and the car is sat there waiting.

The paints I no he has delivered at point apart from the scheme are max Myers and standox

If any of you guys has had your cars painted using one of these manufacturers could you be so kind as to find the tints used and quantities that this painter friend of mine will understand stand thanks

I no the oval vin tag on the doors says something like MV 640 or some thing like that its the shades and a manufacture for a oval plate no of 2001 that was reg'ed in 2002 so I'm not sue if mine will be no 1 or 2
One other thing his paint system says there was a iceberg 1 and 2 one was used from ? -'2000/2001 and the other I think was used to 2003 if anyone no's what he means thanks agin

Thanks agin guys

I would recommend waiting for the paint reader John. I believe there are probably 3 different tones of Iceberg Silver.

I think Renault use an 'excel' paint scheme. If you're having issues matching - I would try to source the correct product.

I once had my ph1 side pods resprayed, came out wrong so complained, then he found 3 more shade cards. Will dig out any Renault info on the paint later when I'm at a computer. (ipads are only good for browsing)

It's rather involved.

They use 2 different paint systems which result in a listing of different tint mixtures.
Example of one I picked at random:

Example: Choosing anyone of these shades would then give you the option to choose from COLORIXELL or OXELIA Hydro paint systems.

Your paint shop may well understand all of this better if you send him to the Ixell website. http://colorbook.ixell.com/

Thanks James Renault gave me the name ixell as the paint used but its a French paint and couldn't find any to match over here

i have just had the very same problem. i have now tried the standard shade (way too silver) and all four variants listed by the paint manufacturer. (costs a fortune at £35 for half a litre) i finally settled on shade 1 but it is not perfect.
a good paint main should be able to tint it to get an acceptable match but it is a bit of a black art. the trouble with iceberg is that it appears different under different light, sometimes it looks blue and sometimes more green.
i wouldn't hold your breath re the paint analyser they are not foolproof and only get you in the right ball park.
other options are to paint larger areas or more commonly to blend into adjacent panels but this can sometimes look naff if the match is not good. good look with it and let us know if you come up with a solution.

Correction:
'Colorixell'

umm, my 1996 safrane must be a different colour then. It's got the same name and looks the same but what do I know [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Well I do know that it can dry to different shades depending upon temperature and humidity (like the renaul 5 Turbo & GTA pearl white).

Hi all, interesting topic as I have just ordered some iceberg for mine and went with the standard paint code from movac and had to go with water based paint which is doggie poo compared to 2k stuff. But before I start did Renault use any particular primer colour before the base coat to give the silver any depth? If the colour is way off looks like I will do a full respray :)
thanks

Well the guy never turned up with his little tool, which doesn't surprise me ! , I was only after him pointing me in the right direction maybe if I was lucky getting me a choice of maybe 3-4 close shades so my m8 can play with it until its right, I just need to get close, the 640 seemed to be to silver for us as well, and at £70 a litre that doesn't matter to me as long as its right or close enought to blend into other panel's, if I can get to within 3 shade I will be getting a litre of each shade, and then he will shade it down to get it close, he is wanting to paint the car at the weekend for me to get it out of the way, as its been sat there for some time now waiting for a job for a job , so I can't hassle him when it like that and I wouldn't ake it anywhere else,

Think he said today it started in 96 till 2001 and then 2000-2003 , thanks for your help guy's ill let you no how I get on and which paint we use in the end, I think it's going to be standox 2k

Well guys I got a very good paint match with max mayers 2pack paint, match.is great no messing around straight out the tin and good enough to edge to edge it, cheers and hope this helps a little next time someone is stuck [smilie=yay.gif]
