knocking noise

Evening all

I get a knocking noise from the engine when its warmed up. Its not all the time but around tick over to around 1800rpm. The only way I can describe it, is that it sounds like a diesel. Have no loss of power or overheating etc.

Car is due its service so want to get it checked out if anyone has any ideas what it could be.

Could be cam dephasers, does it go away after you rev the engine a bit?

Yeah it does disappear, but not all the time. Sorry to be a complete novice but what is involved in replacing them

Cam dephasers are not as scary as they sound to replace, they are normally done at timing belt change time due to easier access. A lot of us experience the same problem, it's a common fault and if it is this, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
