Keeping an eye on the back end

Installed a dual gauge this week. Water temp and oil pressure. Wanted to keep a closer eye on the engine and what its doing. Everything running sweet but is quite fiddly to fit.

Also fitted and rigged up the silver toggle switch which operates the side pod fans now so can be switched on at any time. :D

Looks good Steve ;-)

Am interested in your oil pressure readings such as ...

Idle pressure with engine cold
Operating pressure with engine cold
Idle pressure with engine at operating temp
Operating pressure with engine at operating temp

Idle pressure when cold is 108 (off the gauge)
Operating pressure is off the gauge too when cold.
Can't remember the idle pressure but think it is about 30/40.
Operating pressure (normal driving varies between the rev range but goes from 30/40 all the way back up to 90 +.

Water temp stays at a constant 80-85 degrees. Not had it running in hot temps or in traffic yet.

Simple really - take a feed (positive power supply) 15 amp rated wiring, 15 amp rated switch and 15 amp in-line fuse.

Wire up power to the switch, switch to fuse, fuse to fans t - piece so power goes to both fans and an earth off each fan.

Side pod fans switched and drivers leisure. With keepin an eye on the gauge wen ever in traffic just flick the switch.

Mike - Oil is quite high most of the time. The car got really hot on the rollers yesterday, after just on tick over with a very hot back end was as low as 25 psi.

Hard driving is off the gauge as you have said.

James - Yes big advantage, can be switched on and off when i like and they were not working before so now they are when and how i choose.

In my opinion they are set too high anyway. Think its in the region of 103oC.

I find the auto fan cut in to be ok to be honest - e.g. I live in Hong Kong and its much hotter here than in UK.

My in car temperature gauge reached 40C on Saturday in traffic but the car didn't overheat and the temp gauge rarely goes high / above the middle.

Plus I've been surprised at how good the aircon is which it needs to be at those temperatures and driving around with an oven in the back..!

But you now have to rely on yourself to make sure you keep an eye in running temps to operate the fans? I don't know about you but i'd rather have the auto cut in still just incase.

The switch only operates the side pod fans. Not the water cooling fans.

Water cooling fans are operated normally via the thermostat.

My switch can be turned on and off wen ever i please to aid shifting the hot air build up in the back. I.e Comin into traffic on the motorway.

The switch was put on as i had a problem with the side pod fans not working. Had a full diagnostic check and a new air temp switch put in and still no joy. So the switch was put in place.
