Is This A Coil Failure???

Deb

I've been reading through all the coil threads on here, I know a warning light comes on but I wanted to check which one. This is the light I have had come up (botton right)

The engine sounds rough, plus the exhaust smells dodgy, is this normal?

Also, I'm going to order a couple and get the AA man to come out (assuming it is a coil) and looking at the threads, the pug ones seem to be the best/cheapest ones to get - but will I need to replace all 6 so they're all the same make? Or is it ok to replace just one with a peugeot one?

I have seem them for quite cheap on GSF, has anyone used these before, I don't want to buy rubbish ones!

Thank you

Hi Deb..
I used one of the Peugeot ones nearly 18 months ago. I replaced just the one, and have had no problems.
When you apply a little throttle (stationary), does the car sound like an old vintage moter bike like a Norton or Triumph for example. lol. If the answer is "hell yeah!" it'll allmost certainly be a coil pack! :D [smilie=badpc.gif]

I have replaced 3 coils now and have used a Peugeot one and the ones supplied by GSF. In my opinion the ones from GSF are a better fit and look identicle to the Renault coils. The Peugeot ones are slightly different (but do the same job!)

I'd say (based on your comments) that you definately have a coil failure.

two schools of thought on this old chap reno replacement coils pug etc value for money or trophy ones a lot more money but so far no failures the choice is yours

Thanks for the help guys, it does sound like a coil then. I might give the gsf ones a go for now if they seem ok. Trophy ones are something I'll look at in the future/next time it happens, but right on top of christmas isn't really an option unfortunately!

defo a coil deb, just order the ones from gsf cos i did recently, only fitted 1 of those and no probs since then

All sorted, picked up a couple of coils from gsf today, called the AA out this evening :) Have a spare now too. Cheers for all the advice! Maybe James should start selling coils in the shop!! Lol

I think the lion's share of the membership on here carry a spare...
I'm slightly more neurotic and carry two! [smilie=drunken_smilie1.gif]
