mmm! speaking as someone who would like to buy one, i could not agree more. i am a patient man but if so few are for sale and owners are seeing them as investments (i want to use one, not just polish it between MOTs!) maybe it's time to forget the idea.

I can concur with this. I was a newbie a couple of years ago and I couldn't justify 12 - 15k for a good Ph2 at the time. We got a half decent Ph1 with over 40k on the clock for just 8k. It hadn't been particularly loved by the previous owners, it had an annoying engine fault and the bodywork was a little shoddy. But two years later, a lot of elbow-grease, a respray, a retrim and a little bit more money (well quite a lot actually...) and I have a cracking motor. The smiles-per-miles factor is brilliant.
Oh and we're never gonna sell - so put me on the lifer list
I wish the V hunters out there the very best of luck and if you have the inclination, maybe take on a little restoration project like I did. Better to restore than let them go to waste I think.

I originally bought my 255 Vee for some uncompromising track work - then realised I wanted to keep it for life.
I decided to get myself a R26-R for thrashing instead. I figured it was only 'a regular RS Megane with plastic windows, scaffolding, great seats and some general niceties stripped out'.
Renaultsport didn't sell these in droves and I don't think I've seen one for less than £14k. Demand out-stripping supply.
Without being disrespectful - a Vee is far more special/iconic than a trick Megane will ever be. Which is why a bought a second one.
IMO: When Vee values have superseded R26R values the equilibrium will have been restored. That means R26R's going down or
Vees going up.
Not that I give a toss... : )

Always imagined them driving like a bigger clio trophy.

Sorry! That should have stated 'planned' to get R26R.
I genuinely thought they're values would plummet in line with other Renaultsport products. I hadn't figured on supply & demand.
Lets face it: how easy would it be to fashion a R26R from a stock Megane 225? Doesn't that make the Vee a tinsy-winsy bit more special? I'm so glad I saw the light and bought a second Vee!
