Interchangeable parts 406/Clio

Hi Guys,

I'm still here and plans for the Clio 255 engine going in the Goodwood are full steam ahead. My question today is about interchangeable parts between 406's and the Clio V6, mainly the exhaust manifold.

1) I fully intend in having a complete exhaust made for this car including manifolds and have already contacted my local exhaust man for a quote, but if funds run out by the time I need a exhaust it would be good to know if my current system will work, albeit restrictive. So will my 406 manifolds bolt up?

2) Next thing is cambelt kits, I think I have read 406 and Clio kits are identical? Is there no difference between phases, VVT and non VVT?

3) On the subject of cambelt kits is Continental rated by you guys or do I just go balls out a buy a Gates kit?

Thanks chaps, Ali [smilie=thanks.gif]

The genuine Renault cambelt kit uses SKF idlers/tensioner and a dayco cambelt, you can spend £300approx on a genuine kit if you're mental/rich or just buy the dayco kit for about £180 and get EXACTLY the same thing, your call!!

the belt kits are the same on all L7X engines are the same to my knowledge

you MUST use the special Renault locking pins and setting tools when doing the belts, its a twin VVT engine and all 4 pullies are vernier type, its NOT a tippex job

there are 5 locking pins, 1 setting pin and 1 setting tool (from memory) if you're near birmingham you can borrow mine for a bit of beer money and a deposit of sorts as the set is about £350!!

a mate of mine is putting the V6 lump in a 205 and the exhaust manifolds are a pain, the cast items exit on one side, i think you'll have to go custom made

what's the plan with regard the fly by wire throttle on the 255? I think you may struggle getting it under the bonnet as the 255 inlet is way higher than the Phs1 V6/406 stock inlet

i'm not 100% sure on timing patterns on the flywheels either, but one would assume the pug/cit pattern to be the same as the Ren

Thanks for all that , good point about the trigger pattern, the dta ecu should run it hopefully. The drive by wire throttle is being ditched in in favour of a 70mm jenvey single mechanical body. The inlet and body won't fit under the bonnet, I'll be cutting a hole and a subtle and tasteful bulge will be applied by a body shop!!!

Can you advice on the best place to get the dayco cambelt kit?

Also to the Renault dealer for inlet manifold and exhaust gaskets?

Thanks
