Insurers targeting speeders with steep rise in premiums

Not looking good if you are caught speeding, even if it is your first offence: LINK

Fully support the following though.

"And if you're convicted of using a mobile phone whilst driving, the outlook is even bleaker. Premium increases of 60% are commonplace and some insurers will no longer automatically quote for a renewal."

Got 6 points in the pipeline. Joy. [smilie=doubt.gif]

This is utter sh*te though:

"Insurers are basing these new costs on data that shows drivers with a poor driving record are more likely to make a claim than those who hold clean driving licences."

The data has always been available (and used) by insurers and it showed that 3 points didn't = greater risk. Now all of a sudden the same data means that 3 points = greater risk. Coincidently this change in interpretation comes on the back of a terrible year for insurance companies who have seen reinsurance premiums sky rocket and so they're looking to pass on more of the cost more of the time.

My insurance went through the roof when I told them about the six points I picked up last year. Or £800 [smilie=icon_eek.gif] But I managed over the course of an hour on the phone haggle and change a few policy details and get it back to the original quote. :)

It means another excuse to get more money out of the legal motorist, no doubt they will be even more people driving with no insurance!

Really f&@ks me off when I watch these cop program's on tv when they stop some one with no insurance they get an old banger seized,£200 fine and 6 points on there licence that most don't even have!!
It's never going to work when the fine is less than cost of average insurance its not rocket science
I'm dam sure if the fine for no insurance was min £3k there would be a lot less uninsured drivers on the road and hopefully everybody else would no see massive increases in insurance costs.

If you have been hit by a uninsured driver you have to claim on your own insurance WTF! They should be made to sell they house if they have no money to pay for damages

If i was hit by an uninsured car matey will most defiantly be off to hospital with injures not related to the crash!

Sorry to harp on
