Immobiliser problem ! Help !

S

swannie21

Right, a few months back i lost the main key for my ph3 21t, The key had the immobiliser fob built in. Luckly i have a spare key for the car & the car was only locked not immoblised when i lost the main key. Unfortunatly the spare key does not have the fob built in but over the last few months it hasnt caused an issue..until today !!

Today, after doing some repairs to the car & checking to see if my alternator is chuffed i noticed the batt terminal was looose, so i tightend it & didnt think anything of it. When i went to start the car it didnt fire & i noticed the engine warning light flashing meaning immobiliser has cut in..must of reset when i tightened the batt terminal.. Question is now, how do i de activate the immobiliser ??? Is there a way to de activate it without the master key ? If no (which i hope it aint !) then what can i do & what do i need to cure the prob ??

It seems everytime i try to cure a prob a create another !! not having a good 21t time at the mo !!

Oops.

You are, for want of a better word, shafted.

:bat:

ETA- Please tell me you made a note of the 4-digit code in the plip. You can use that as an override for emergency use if I remember correctly.
Also is there a mystery key slot in the engine bay or glove box?

Hi Swannie, I had the same problem with a Clio Bacarra. The keyfob died & i could only unlock with the key - but then it wouldn't start because of the immobiliser.
I had to contact Renault & give them the 4 digit number (luckily it was written in the hand book) Renault gave me a sequence to follow, this involved pushing the computer button & depressing the clutch pedal. The car then started but the alarm still sounded, under the bonnet was a key switch for the alarm (this silenced the alarm but didn't stop the lights flashing wildly) Had to drive through Paris looking for somewhere to buy a battery (with all the lights flashing) - nightmare!!
As dave said, if you haven't got the 4 digit code you might well be stuffed....

Goodluck!!!!

It was a classic drive - carving through the traffic as all the locals moved over thinking i was the police or something - Mrs Cooke wasn't to impressed though!!

I have found the key slot in the glove box which is good news ! Ive yet been able to track down the car manual, i know ive got it, just need to find it. Im really hoping the code has been noted down somewhere. The pervious owner did look after the car & kept all paper work so there is a chance that the code has been noted somewhere, will have to have a good look tonight @ my parents where i keep my doc's..

When you guys mention 'stuffed' or 'shafted', What would i need to get the car going again (even if i by passed the immobilser & didnt have one, did that on my vr6 as that had immobilser issues) ?

If worse come to worse & i dont have a code, if i sourced an ECU, immobilser & key fob all from another phase 3 & fitted them to my car it will work ?

I would think you'd only need key fob and receiver, but I haven't messed around with immobs..

BTW, do all ph3 have immob?

Turn the key. See if it starts. Figure out what it does cos I cant remember.

Otherwise, yeah, alarm, ECU, fob and receiver as a set.

Nope.

Sorry for stealing the thread

How do I know if mine has immob? It has a factory fitted alarm system, did that include immob as well?

You know the ABS computer under the carpeted cover under the front seat? Is there another one the other side?

I thought the ABS comp was in the engine compartment.. hmm.. otherside of the seat or of the car? There is a computer under the passenger front seat, I'm guessing that is the ABS comp then, (mine has the steering wheel on the left side) Do you mean in the center of the car or under the driver seat in the same position?

Yup, I got the sensors in the roof console, and the indicators go off when opening a door without unlocking with the plip, there is also a siren under passenger side headlight, in front of the IC, the siren has a wire cut though..

Then yes, it has. The computer under your passenger seat must be the alarm unit, in the same position as the UK car which is in the same place (only on our cars its under the drivers seat of course)

Ok, so ive had a good look for this key code for the immobiliser but unfortunately its not noted down anywhere :-(

So, my next step is to get hold of: (from the same car!)

1x immobiliser
1x key & fob
1x door lock
1x ignition module

I would ideally want a new door lock & ignition module, as I would rather not have to have 2 keys to open& start one car!! Ive already got 4 cars that I use & keeping track of key's is hard enough as it is.

Does anybody have a ph3 breaking at the mo or know of anywhere likely to have the bits I need? Is there other Renaults such as 19's or Clio’s that use the same type of immobiliser set up & would they work in the 21t?

Any info would be greatly apreciated :-))))

Nope. The alarm is coded to the ECU, so you need the pair matched and the only ECU that'll work is another 21 one. Same applies to the zappy zappy stuff, the key and reciever must be paired. As for whether those 2 pairs must also be paired or not i'm not sure, never tried it.

If I were you i'd get a zappy zappy fob and receiver, try those first. If theyre not coded to the alarm computer and just send the 'unlock' signal as the zappy and receiver are matched, you might save yourself a few bob.

hi i know that on a 1.8 16v clio ph1 and 2 you only need to change the key fob and imobilizer part in the roof and been told that you only have to do that in a 21 turbo as well hope this helps
