Clio mk1 1.8 16v ph2. Brought the car last january, drove back from kent, fine for 2 weeks. i then changed the boot and a few other body pannels and came to start but it was only turning over and not firing, Everything else works on the car. scratched my head and decided to change aload of sensors (water, rad, lambda, map, to new but to no prevail, then swapping parts to rule out faults (solinoid, dizzy cap/rotary arm, coilpack, leads/plugs, ecu, loom) and still nothing. I decided to get a mobile mechanic in... he went over the car did a few checks on the vault meter, he said there was abit of a weak earth to the fuel pump but there was 12v going to it so it should prime but not a sound could be heard. He said get a new pump... so i did then fitted it, still nothing. I then decided to do a pump test on the new fuel pump and heard that buzzing noise i wanted to hear!! (so it wasnt the pump and i payed someone £50 to tell me it was!!) went to start the car but now theres no spark (i did take the battery off to recharge befor the mechanic came to look so this could have set the immo off but i had the problem before i took it off to charge:() so im convinced its immobilizer issues or alarm (cutting the fuel and spark).
The car is fitted with an aftermarket alarm system (louuuud) which the kid i brought it off never used, does this come with a built in immobilizer fitted? and will they have taken out or bypassed the original manufacturers immobiliser that everyone has problems with? or have i broke the curcuit in someway ie. swaping the boot or bonnet?
I phoned the lad i got it from and when i spoke to him he said he never had any issues with it and he had it a few years.
Can anyone help/advise me or tell me who can sort it out for me? im situated in the birmingham area. its realy getting to me now after 12 months of swapping and changing everything, i just wanna raaaaace lol. camed, vinier pulleys, gasflowed, superchiped, pipercross induction, uprated fuel pump, supersprint manifold and full straight through exhaust system, shortshift, 10mm core ht leads and its just sitting there teasing me:(

Cheers Mark

probably a stupid suggestion but have you tried locking and unlocking the car with the blip on the key?

i then changed the boot and a few other body pannels

Might be a stupid question but have you checked the earthing? There is an earth connection in the boot that might be dodgy after the boot change, maybe that has something to do with it.

Yes I was gonna say bad earth, maybe. Check all the main earths & make sure they're clean connections & not loose. What were the "few other panels" you changed? Did you change the crank sensor?

ROLO: Only changed front bumper, bonnet, boot, front and rear lights. yer yer put the crank sensor, ISCV, TPS, Map sensor off my running PH1 19 16V still no good

we tried it on my mates snap on diagnostics and come up with no signal from the car or something like that, tried a few different ECU's still nothing

what ecu's are you trying?? all the phase 2 ecu's have got an immobilizer built in, you need a phase1 ecu or a clio Williams ecu as they haven't got an immobilizer......

Sound pal iv tried 3 ECU'S with the same serial number and about 5 phase1 19 16v ECU's. All didn't work but all worked on my mates phase2 19 16v...

ok,if they work on another car they should deffo work on yours,so if your definitely not getting spark its either the after market alarm has malfunctioned and immobilised itself(ive had this before, owned a clio16v for a year then out the blue just cut out and wouldn't start again ripped out the alarm and immobiliser and started straight up and that was an expensive cobra alarm)..... its a lot of work but if you know wat ur doing its fairly easy. make this ur last option.

if you've got another car to borrow parts of use his entire ignition system, put his coil, leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm etc this way if it still doesn't work then at least you've eliminated them as problems.

if it still doesn't work I would check the camshaft is actually spinning the rotor arm then it would be onto the alarm or wiring loom fault.....

My ph 1 16v had similar problems last year. I traced it back to a dodgy engine loom. Whipped it out and went through it,tidying up the connections etc. Put it back in and fired up first time.
