I now relaise how a Vee should handle...

Following from my previous post (Mk2 geo settings)
I’ve just picked up my Vee from the stealers after being forced to make them do the geometry again which should have been done correctly in the flipping first place!

Anyway I now have a vee that handles how it should do and two brand new PS2’s (obviously all FOC).
When set-up correctly the Vee handles like a dream, its like a totally different car!! :D

After close inspection of the print out I am now running +30 (spot on +15/+15 r/l) on the front toe and +0.44 (spot +0.22 rl) on the rear

Camber wise I’m now running:

-1.33 (left rear) and -1.55 (right rear)
-1.16 (left front) and -1.02 (right front)

Apparently this is to Renault’s specs (although the front left camber is technically outside of renault tolerances by 0.11 and the rear right camber is out by 0.05)
I’m not complaining about the front toe settings as it now means the fronts shouldn’t wear as much on the inner edges anymore (Harry also recommends this setting and is also listed on the Biers download)

Just for the record it appears that different information sources all contradict each other when it comes to recommended geometry settings:
French Renault technical manual V’s English Renault technical Manual (taken from alpine web site) V’s Renault UK’s figures V’s Biers blue tooth alignment download - the question is who to believe.... anyway although the left front and rear right camber settings are technically out of Renault tolerance levels they are so minor am not too worried about this as I doubt any human could tell the difference...?

All in all I have learnt two lessons from this whole episode:

Never take your Vee to a main dealer and always double check the work agreed on your sales invoice :bubble:

Now you've got your car back, I would recommend that you check the tyre pressures. When I owned that car, my front tyres also initially wore out the inner edges. On checking the front pressures, both were down by about 10psi! I attributed the tyre wear to this, because when I checked the toe & camber settings (with my own equipment), they were definitely within the manufacturers spec. When I picked up my new Megane R26, I checked the pressures, and lo & behold these were way too low as well!!! Seems the dealer doesn't have a clue regarding these things.

Thanks for the suggestion Gordon :thumright: will get these checked asap. Purely in the interest of science which version of settings did you decide to follow in the end?

To add for the records:

Both alignment specialists my Vee has been to plus Renault UK specify the front toe being +0.30 as opposed to -0.30
I can only presume that Renault have updated the specs (maybe due to premature inner tyre wear) since the techincal manual was originally printed in 2002

Know what...mine were at 15psi when I checked my pressures after buying the car   Not good is it....especially from the stealers.....coming to the conclusion they are completely crap and add no value whatsoever....

Hardly a startling revelation ....!!! :D

As predicted I checked the pressures today and low and behold the fronts were at 2.2 bar. Readjusted and the handling feels even better! Also popped into Renault West London as I happened to be passing and had a quick glimpse at a Mars red they currently have in stock as I hadn't seen one before, they have had it for a while now and although it is a 55 with 9k on the clock they are asking an astronomical £25,995! (deff. made the right decision in opted for Titanium in the end).

They also still have a really tatty 53 with circa. 30k on the clock (asking £17,995) in Titanium which I looked at well over 2 months ago and seeing it again really put into perspective how clean mine is (so a big hats off to Gordon!)

God I love my Vee!!

That is all
