Hi from down south

New Member
Hi all,
like most I've joined this forum in the hope that i can find the right info on the v6 and good and bad ones for sale!
Im from south east england and have all ways love the clio v6 a childhood dream kinda ever since i saw a silver phase 1 (that nearly ran me over).
I once owned a clio but only a 1.2 [smilie=icon_eek.gif] but since then I've had lupo gti, mk1 and mk2 golfs, mx5' and a couple of lambrettas! Now i have a mercedes e class estate (v6) and a mk 1 golf and most importantly a work van [smilie=yay.gif] !
So now I'm older i thought i would look into ownership of these cars as they still turn my head when you rarely see them!
thanks for any future advice and sorry for any dumb questions i may ask !

gareth

Hi Gareth and welcome! You sound like you have the bug! :)
Youve certainly come to the right place! Get yourself a full membership, the wealth of information you can access on cars is huge and has saved more than one person from buying a nail!

Is it ph1 or 2 you are after? Any colour preferences? Budget?
Colin

I would love a blue phase 2 but prices seem to be around 10,000-15,000, i enquired about the cheap silver phase 1 on piston heads but it seems to have had a fair few owners!
I will definitely get the full membership and for £5 seems cheap!
Gareth

Welcome Gareth,

I've owned two lupo gti's in my time and I'm a member on club lupo, although I rarely go on there and if I do it's because I've found something in garage to sell :)

Sam

i swear i remember your name of there perhaps edition! i don't go on clublupo any more but i had the smooth roofed lupo gti on cams with red upper and silver lower!

Welcome to v6clio.net Gareth!

Quite a few of us down here in the South East/south Central.. :)

Don't be shy to ask questions, how ever daft you think they may be. There's always someone about who'll be happy to help you out.

Happy hunting! Just don't rush into anything, and be prepared to travel for the right car, for you.

Thought it was yourself, tried buying the leather interior at one point in a trade for my cloth seats
Like I said if I find something hiding in the garage I'll pop on there.

It's a helpful forum and everyone is friendly here.

If I can be of service let me know :approve:

Cheers guys for the warm welcome, I was just reading through the sites for sale and seemed like I've missed out on some bargains in the past 2 month!
So the big question....is it realistic to but a phase 2 for around 10,000 with out 20 owners, ex cat c/d and big problems! An honest opinion would be great!
Thanks again
Gareth

Not unless the seller really really has to sell urgently. I'd look a phase one purely down to fact you'll enjoy a good car instead of parking a questionable phase two in the garage for £££ work

Unfortunately the v6 hunt isn't for the most patient

I was looking from August until I purchased my one in march this year. Before that I got fed up and bought a new r32 a couple of years ago

I'd expect a fresh crop to come up for sale soon, its summer so cars like this come out more

Don't let the number of owners put you off. If its a good example then grab it. Its always best to have 10 careful, forgiving owners than 1 or 2 that don't give a monkies about the car.

Myself and brother are/were members on club lupo. A very unhelpful place compared to here.

Hi Gareth from a fellow south east based fan!

I can only think of 2-3 phase v6s that have sold for 10k ish that were good examples. It's possible but extremely rare and also a bit sad as its generally only down to desperation.

10k will buy you the very best phase one or the poorer phase twos. My advise would be by private to get the best car at the best price.

If your heart is set on a blue phase 2 then it's worth saving up a little more to get the one you want, but both bring great satisfaction and the unique v6 charm.

Happy hunting and please do ask if you need any help. Phase ones are my speciality!

As Sam stated - these have come along - but typically it has been "out of season" and a vendor looking for a quick sale.
I've been a member for over 6 years - and I'd say the opportunity to purchase a nice/straight Mk II for under £11k has happened on 3 occasions.

Rationally thinking: I'd advise that getting the right Vee is much more important than the getting the right purchase price.

Hi,
How far south and east are you (roughly)?

How long do you intend to keep the car yourself?
If you're thinking 'I'll run it for a year and move it on' = scratch it off my bucket list, Then you're the same as many previous owners on the 'high number of owners' cars.
Not something to worry about in it-self.
Buy on condition, condition, service history, condition and service history.
Only if you've got 2 cars on your short list then consider milage (these aren't 'kit-cars' or highly strung italian exotica).
Ignore the wierd 'low mileage' obsession many on here have It really is a form of OCD.

If you're one of the few that buys one because you've always wanted one and plan to keep it forever, then you can look at a CAT D but you must get someone that knows Vees to have a real good look at it before parting with any money. In 10 years time no one will care if the car was a CAT D, but they will care that it's a good one.

No one worries about a Lotus elan or cortina (or so many other cars) having been damaged, only if it's been repaired properly.
Personally, if I had the cash I'd be asking around about the cheap ebay one, but I never buy a car to sell (oddly I've never lost money on a car sale either 8) ).

the advice keeps coming !
i should be viewing a blue 54 plate v6 next week 50,00 miles but full service
a little over budget!

:welcome: buddy.

I think we broke every rule when we bought ours. We unearthed its dark past shortly after buying her. Crash damage wasn't recorded and the car was repaired by Mark Fish. We've kept her going in the right direction and she's never let us down and is now in better condition than when we bought her in '09.

Happy hunting.

PS, as has been mentioned already, try no to let mileage and the number of owners worry you too much. Our Vee has had a raft of owners and is now 62K and the engine is nice and strong (as Scott G put it!) :race:
