Heater Fan not working

So I got in my car the other day and drove down the road and turned the air con off. A few hours later when I got back in the car I turned it back on and no air was coming out the vents. Checked they were all open...... tried to turn the fan on manually but nothing. The climate panel works fine displaying temperature and fan speed but nothing comes out. Left it on while driving but the fan is not working. So when I parked up I listenned to hear if anything was happening. The air con kicks in as i can hear the change in engine sound and it sounds like a very faint noise coming from drivers side. Sounds a bit like a disc changer changing discs. I removed the panel on the scuttle and checked all the connections but still nothing. Before I take it to Renault I would like to establish what it is. I have read it could be the resistor or the fan. Does anyone know how I can narrow down the faulty part. Could not see anything about fuses for the fan motor in the manual. Is there such a thing? Which box is the fan as there are several black boxes but cant tell which is the fan?

Thanks

Phil

Thats exactly what I was after James. Many thanks. Hopefully mine will be the same thing. Fingers crossed!!!!!!

Or try my guide too. I think it's different to the one James linked nut I'm on my phone and can't find the appropriate link now. It's in the knowledge base.

Sounds ezactly like the problem I had.

Phil, if your fans don't work on any speed setting, I'm fairly sure you have the same problem as I had.

If your fans work but only on one speed setting, try the first guide. (but I think this more relevant to the 230 vee, phase I clio which had manual controls, not full climate control.

Ben

p.s. thanks for the link James, tapatalk's a bit limited!

Phil, it does sound like the heater resistor pack. I've had my vee and 182 both go!!!!!! common problem if you search on cliosport.
Either follow Benkay's very good guide or I sent my resistor pack to this guy to sort for 24Hr turnaround.
Heater resistor repair on Ebay
OR go dealers pull pants down and hand over £100 ;)
Would have a go myself in future :approve: but the guide wasn't up when I needed it
Hope you get it sorted ASAP

Edit; Have you tried shorting pins 1+5 on heater resistor as this should cause fan to kick in full power ;)

Thanks for the help guys. Not had a chance to look at it and just failed the MOT on cracked front springs....... Wallet time big time. Will try pin 1 and 5 to be sure its not the motor.

Phil

Ok. So I sent off the resistor to the recomended link on Ebay and just got the fixed one back. I checked the motor was working by shorting the two pins and it did. When I plugged in the resistor today the fans still did not work. A little confused now as it was all the symptoms of the resistor. The climate display unit works fine and I can hear the air con pump kick in when I flick it on. Going to try and swap it over with a friends 182 one. Does anyone have any ideas what else it could be?

Could it be the guy on eBay sent back an unrepaired one to you by accident? Definitely sounds like resistor pack problem....

The plot thickens. Booked the car at Renault to get the aircon fixed as I couldnt find the problem. So they have replaced the fan motor, the resistor pack and it still doesnt work. The compressor kicks in but no fans..... Renault dont have the wirring diagram for the car either so they are a bit stuck... Any ideas?

Phil

Thanks James. I have forwarded that onto the dealer. Seems wrong the customer is supplying wirring diagrams!!!!

Good news. The garage have sold the problem. Something to do with a cold air relay!!!! Either way I can go to the Goodwood Breakfast club meeting on sunday without having my head hanging out of the window..... Thanks for your help guys. [smilie=yay.gif]

Does anybody know where I might find my heater resistor pack (if I have one) on the phase 1? On the phase 2 it is in the red circle!

Ignore the duct tape, I'll get the thing underneath stuck back on proper with a sticky pad.
