Gutted

Didn't watch all of it but how depressing is that for the owner!

Guessing a issue after heavy use, seem to remember the black one was at a track as well?

I dont understand why they stood there so long!! if that was mine the engine bay would have been full of foam. Fire extingisher system on the rebuild list!!!

OMG.... that is really painful to watch. Can't even begin to imagine how I would feel if that happened me. How many of us will be investing in a fire extinguisher now?

If mine started to take fire, I would hope it burned as well as his to get a total loss pay out. Hope he had track insurance tho!!! [smilie=icon_cry.gif]

Ali, another one down, ur colour is getting rare, just a few hundred to go. [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

It seems the case that once the fire is started a fire extinguisher is too little too late, they must have tried about 10 there and nothing worked!

Absolutely gutted for the owner, as said with no track cover he is heavily out of pocket :(

To be fair he did piss fat about for a good while! He should have parked near the paddock then whipped the covers straight off. Water and powder would have easily killed it in the first few minutes. Once its ablaze though its a different story.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Also as soon as you open the engine covers your feeding the fire with oxygen so potentially not the best idea from a personal safety point of view.

Recent trackday insurance I took out had a specific clause stating that in the event the vehicle catches fire due to a mechanical/electrical failure then it would not be covered. Only fire damage as a result of an accident would be covered. Hopefully he had better insurance than I did!

Speaking from experience (mine caught fire at Rockingham) you know when your cars smoldering so you either 1) get to somewhere near help or 2) when you get out, don't stand and look at it.
Regarding the covers, yes your right, it probably would feed it with oxygen. However when you've got side intakes supplying just as much, I'd rather beable to put anyfire out instead of hoping it won't go up.
Regardless I'm sure the bloke is devistated.

Blooming horrible to watch that.

Must of been so gutted.

Reading the thread of v6 passion, its believed that he didnt own it long, had just paid 28000 euros for it.

Its the 4th known v6 to set on fire:
1. The infamous black ph2
2. A fire in a v6 on the circuit bresse May 2006
3. A fire in a v6 Member luc February 2008
4. This blue ph2

How long did the fire engines take to come......!!

how many track days have a fire engine on standbye? answer is none. Maybe a marshals van with extinquishers but that will be it and most circuits are in the midst of nowhere so no fire engine will reach there quickly. TBH the small extinguisher we carry would be useless anyway unless yu can pin point the fire in the very early stages and that would involve taking the covers off.

Fair point mark, but aren't they usually on site somewhere?
