GEARBOX FAILURE AND ENGINE TIE ROD

Guys,

2 days before the end of the original 3 year warranty (I have an extension 'til 11/2010), my gearbox gave up the ghost...RUK agred that Tunbridge Wells Renault (TWR) could replace under warranty (phew!) and I'm taking the oppo to have a new clutch fitted while they have the engine dropped. All good and well...

However, they have also advised me that the engine tie rod (lower engine stabaliser) has failed and they want to replace it. Cost is £345 to me as they say its not covered under warranty. I asked why it failed and they said they don't know, but the replacement is a re-designed part as the original was prone to failure...That sort of suggests to me that it should be a warranty job....

Wondered if anybody else had suffered a similar failure and if they succeeded with a warranty claim?

Mk 1 or Mk2 ? cause the stabiliser on Mk1 only about £30 not £300 and if thats gone the gearbox one may need changing too.
Did you notice a klonk when pulling off and stopping?

Sorry, I didnt reply....After I challenged the garage again, they suddenly decided the tie rod was required...Funny that, eh!? Had the car back after a week and the lovely garage monkeys had fixed the drivetrain (new gearbox courtesy RUK, new clutch @ my cost), but bu66ered the exhaust - apparently whilst extracting the gearbox they levered on the rear of the exhaust and managed to split a gasket - sounded like it was blowing badly as soon as I drove it away...They denied it of course..cost me £50 at KTEC to put right. Stil, Black Frog running well now....touch wood. LGN
