Future V6 Prices

I know that the price of the vee’s vary a lot depending on condition, colour, miles etc, as does any other car. But I’ve been trying to think what sort of prices are these going to be in say 5 years time? With the chances of Renault producing a car as crazy as the vee pretty much impossible, will they still hold a good value in years to come. And maybe demand a high asking price? Will the demand for them be as high as it is now?

Now the reason I ask is I’m hopefully going to be purchasing one in the near future, and more than likely will be using either finance or loan to pay for it over the 4 or 5 years. Now to me a car is a toy, I have a work van for commuting and little personal miles. So I don’t fancy getting a ‘normal’ car, I want something exciting, something different which stands out, I had a 182 and loved it and I think I need to scratch the itch and go all out and get a vee. Another reason I ask is if I’m spending say 14k on a car, I don’t want it to depreciate over the term I’m paying for it so that I lose out a considerable amount. I’m kind of being biased to the Mk2 as that’s the car I would be going for.

Just as side note, Speaking of standing out, do people on here ‘big it up’ about people stopping and staring at the cars and taking a few seconds to realise what it actually is? Or are they being serious?

Hi Paul, personally speaking its all completely true, literally this morning I took the vee out, as I overtook a young couple I could see te chap in the passenger seat taking photos on his phone with the flash on! You'll find you'll get all sorts, some even think its a body kit with a 1.2 engine [smilie=icon_eek.gif] but manly is people loving seeing one and giving the thumbs up, you'll find you get interest in petrol station for the most part I imagine, I have a mk1 tough obviously so I couldn't speak as a mk2 owner buti bets it's no different! There's a few threads about it in here actually.

In terms of depreciation I think the vee is a good strong bet, however if you want investment on 14k there might be better places than a car, that said I thinking speak for most of us in saying prices can surely only go up! just enjoy it! Even if you lost all 14 k it's worth it :race:

Hi Sam, a 1.2 with a body kit?? Oh how they couldnt be much more wrong!
I honestly can't wait to get one. I remember seeing them on Grand Turismo 2 and i loved them then.
I had to ask about the attention, it's amazing how much attention they get!

I also wonder how many are in the north east? I'd love to be able to meet up with someone who would be willing to show what to look out for when buying them.

There's tons of info in that respect on here I think in the members area/ register. you can always post too, there are loads up your way! You honestly get it all though, lots of smiles and thumbs up! It's the closest ill ever get to knowing what it's like to being a celebrity! Lol. Best thing I've ever bought though tbh, the day I picked it up was the most excitedive ever been. Good luck with the search, just be patient and make sure you get what you want!

Paul - it's very difficult to predict future values and it's impossible to predict what sort of running costs you'll incur during ownership.
Personally, I'd want a decent 'war-chest' in case I cracked a bumper or needed a replacement box. The cambelt service is particularly hard on the wallet.

With that in mind you might want to consider a perfect Mk I, which typically represent exceptional VFM. 8)

The amount of attention they get is ridiculous, and its nice to say I've yet to have a negative one. People staring, thumbs up, smiling, asking at petrol stations and never had someone 'race' me. Probably because if they're in a slower car they'll think I'll leave them for dead, or a faster car (generally a car enthusiast) will just want to look at it

Only 2 hours ago I nipped out to the local chip shop. As I walked in a guy in his 60's with a stobart jacket on said to me "go on then, what is it?" When I told him it was a clio v6 he asked me if I built it myself or was it factory made? We chatted for a while and he said he loved it etc etc. As the girl was handing me my chips she started laughing and told me to look out of the window. The old trucker was taking taking photos of my car! (I polished it yesterday thankfully)

This is not an everyday occurence as you can imagine, but you will get a lot of attention.

Another interesting thing that happened to me today (slightly off topic sorry) I went down to London to do some work and ended up working with a guy I had never met before. After about an hour of working with him he told me that he used to work for TWR in research and development at the time they were building the vees!! My afternoon went very fast after that! Told me lots of interesting stuff.

Very hard to predict what the prices will be, even if you look now to see what a car 3 or 4 years older than the one you are thinking of buying is.

I just recently sold my Nissan 350z Roadster. It was a rare 313 model, one of only 250 in the UK. Had every option in the box ticked and cost the original buyer over £36,000. When I bought it, I looked at resale value and worked out from sold cars on the internet, that id probably loose maybe £2000 over a year on it as a worse case scenario.

What did I actually loose? Well, I didnt realise the demand for big engine`d thirsty cars would drop so much. You only have to look at RX8`s - you cant give them away now. And sure, whilst mine was a 1 out of 250 car that meant nothing come resale. I lost about £7000 on it in 18 months. That works out at £600 a month depreciation!

Whilst they are not as rare in general as Clio v6`s, I only saw 1 other 313 roadster in the 18months of ownership and like with the clio, I had complete strangers coming up to me, complimenting me on the car, asking what it was. Even nipping down the shops for a pint of milk made you feel like a celebrity!

With a car like that, you need to factor in running costs as well as resale. I lost £600 per month on my 313 in deprecation, was spending £500 a month on fuel and additional running costs on top of that came to about £450 a month - tax, mot, insurance, servicing, tyres etc. So, its not cheap!

Looking at v6 prices over the last 18 months tho, they do seem to remain high. What amazes me is that they vary so much. This last week ive seen one for £7500, another for £19000!

Hi,

I'm a Brit in the trade in France, and whilst everything seems more expensive here these days, the price of a phase 2 has sky-rocketed since my purchase - a clean sub 30,OOOkm example was fetching 20K € in 2008, you can add ten grand to that price today....

All the information im reading is making me want one even more. There's too many to quote but im greatful for every little help.

But one thing that has been said and caught my eye is the RX8's price, i actually contemplated buying one before i got my 182, i thought they (and still do) looked fantastic. Looking now though, 3 years later it's probably the best thing i done in not buying one. £425 (i think) road tax a year is ridiculous, the mpg is shameful, the problems i hear about them is just a money pit. All cars can/will have problems but it seems even more so on these.

But coming back to the V6 and this forum. It's fantastic. I'v already had one guy PM me saying he's willing to show me round his car and point me in the right direction.

I think the time has come and i need to take it more seriously and sit down too work out exactly how well i can afford one. Look at the different options loan / finance etc. I would say my job is 99% secure so i shouldnt have any worries there either.
I sold my 182 to afford to move house, and now that is all sorted and i'm settled i can start to look at something iv wanted for a long time! Being on 23 i thought that insurance would have been a bit of a problem but turns out its not, i was slightly shocked, iv read the insurance topics alot.

Time to play the waiting game, wait for the right one at the right price, so if these prices are to go like the France ones, please keep them low for the next few month till i find one!
