Hi steve, had a similar dilemma with a fuel pump fuse and relay, ie could not find which one was which, as you know i do have a damaged spare car so i did my diagnosis on the spare to save stripping the good one, all went very well untill i found the french are'nt too careful of putting the fuses in the same space on two seperate cars, they are in the same general area but dont take for granted if someone suggests bottom row second in etc, they are not all the same!
a good bit of kit is called a power probe from the snapon man, this device is powered from the vehicle and shows voltage at probed points in loom, it also allows you to inject a pos or neg pulse to id different circuits, i bought one and it saved shedloads of time, not cheap though, pm me for more info, spike.
