Fuel gauge wiring Mk2 phase 1 v6.

Does anyone know how the actual gauge works?

I have got the wiring diagram for all the pin outs on the back of the dash but when i connect the gauge up it doesn't move and the light stays on. When i run the diagnostic check on the dash all the needles move so i know the gauge itself works.

P.s. the dash is in my reno 5.

Any ideas?

Im using the R5 gtt sender unit, which is different to the clio one. However the clio dash has two pins for the fuel gauge a +ve and a -ve and even if i give these direct live & earth nothing happens on the gauge. The R5 clocks work off one sender wire which is an earth and I was hoping to be able to give the +ve feed on the clocks a feed from switch live and run the -ve pin from the gtt sender.

But as I've said I cant get the gauge to move at all (unless i run the diagnostic) so I am wondering if I am missing something or if the CPU or ECU runs the gauge (which I dont have)

I cant get the water temp gauge to move either, and that only has one pin?

I was thinking of dropping the clocks into the V6 just to test they actually work.
