Front Suspension Top Mount Gone??

Hi guys,

I have a knocking noise from the OSF suspension when on full lock and the gap betwen the arch is about 10-15mm smaller than the NSF, many people found this?? Could it be the top suspension mount gone after only 18kmiles? :s

I have checked the rear subframe and its nice and tight, had both front wheels off and there are no leaks or damage on the dampers, and the springs are not cracked or corroded.

Also any idea on top mount prices before I manage to get on to Renault on monday?

Many Thanks,

James

With the steering in the central position look at the top mounts - they should both be laying flat against the top mount turret. When the steering is at various degrees of lock it is normal for the top mounts to "lift". It's a side effect of MacPherson strut type suspension that you actually get quite significant alteration of the geometry when the car is at various degrees of lock.

The amount of damper rod showing through the top mounts should be roughly the same on each side as well.

It's more likely to be a bush (ARB or wishbone) then a failed top mount.
