Front fog light!

Big Iain

New Member
Anyone got a pic of the back of the fog light to see the retaining clip! I can touch it but cant really see it to work out how it comes off.

Cheers

I changed the front fog bulb on mine yesterday, what a complete bitch it was! I had to do the drivers side. Left hand down into the tiny gap and unable to see what i was doing, it's a case of use a torch to look first then feel your way about. Took me a while but can obviously be done.

The fog light clips just hold the top of the lamp in, there a small bolt or screw coming up from the underneath into fog lamp, if you undo that the lamp lifts up and the clip just disenage, you need to take the 4 screws out of the fog lamp surround out too so you can remove that so the lamp will come out the front of the bumper, have a look at the parts book in the knowalge section this show the screws.

Yeas its to change the bulb, not sure if its an mot fail or not? But when checking I noticed it doesnt work.

Should have been driving lamps that were fitted and I might have used them that way.

Anyway I can see the wire retainer and can prod about with it but its not for moving!

Steve those pics would have been excelent if the cap was off cheers though for the effort!

im pretty sure faulty fog light bulb isnt an mot fail. my old bmw went through 3 mots at different places and they never worked.

if your doing the just the bulb, its easy enough to just remove a part of the arch liner or part of the d-panel and reach in.

hI
SORRY GOT ALL CONFUSED I THOUGHT YOU WANT TO GET THE LAMP OUT OF THE BUMBER TO CHANGE THE BULB NOT GET THE BACK OFF THE LAMP UNIT, SO HERE ARE 2 MORE PHOTOS, AS YOU SEE THERE I HAVE 2 DIFFERENT TYPES, BOTH TAKE H1 BULBS,
BOTH NEED A 1/4 TURN OF THE BACK COVER TO REMOVE THEM, ONE HAS THE BULB MOUNTED IN THE COVER ON THE OTHER THE BULB IS MOUNTED IN THE LAMP UNIT

HOPE THIS HELPS

Cheers again steve, Mines the type on the right. Any chance if you get a moment that is you could take a pic of the retainer? without the wee plug in the way?

cheers very much!!

The retiaining spring 'hooks' into a groove/slot, when you unclip it out of this groove, the retaining clip/spring pivot 180 degrees out of the way so you can remove the bulb.

am sure if your cars fitted with fog lights they have to work for an mot am sure ma daughters car failed because of it

well the whole unit is coming out now, noticed I the glass has a crack in it now! At least it will be easier to change the bulb now lol

Steve, I have been pulling my hair out on this one.

It seems you cannot get the type I have anymore with the retaining clip. All I can source new is the other type with the bulb in the cover. Can you confirm it still fits correctly in every other way? I shall soon find out its gonna get fitted at the weekend.

Btw people 17 quid plus vat for the same part as reno that charge 50 plus vat!
