front calipers ?

I am getting a 2005 255 vee in next week ... what are the front calipers on the car ? i have seen pics on here where some have AP ones on ... are these standard or optional ?

Looked on technical info but doesn't mention brand ... but seeing the various pics thought i would ask

Hi Simon,

They are AP Racing calipers as standard..........Renault just asked AP Racing to make them without the AP logo on the front.

Some Guys just sticker them up etc.

I do have the exact spec somewhere that I can probably dig out if you really need ?

Cheers,
Hoogi

The Renault Clio V6 front caliper APR supplied for the production car builds was Caliper part # CP6605-8S0:TWR / CP6605-9S0:TWR

I spoke to a really helpful guy at AP Racing on the phone last year who was responsible for making these for Renault for the Clio V6. Apparently Renault were adamant they didn't want AP decals on the calipers. They are a standard AP specific caliper used on many other performance cars like TVR's etc, and the mount lugs were modified for the Vee.

I also found out info on the finish of the calipers. They have a specific coating that gets wrecked if you shot blast and powder coat them so its advisable to just wet spray them apply decals and lacquer them if you want to paint them.

Dan,

Did he mention where to get overhaul kits. Also interested in the finish of the calipers, case to share this info.

Cheers

Useful info, some prize p111ock has put Brembo stickers on mine front and back, it seems that they have been painted silver and yellow in the past and are now lipstick red! if you have a full spec to restore them correctly that would be great or even a contact for the guy at AP so that at least the original coatings can be reinstated.

I'm currently awaiting the return of my Vee from a full brake and caliper refurbishment. Both guys were very helpful and James could supply all the parts required within a few days.

a little info below from Pete at AP:

The Clio V6 front Caliper should have an AP Racing part # etched on between the 2 mounting lugs.
CP6605-8S0:TWR (RH)
CP6605-9S0:TWR (LH)

Seal kit # CP4525-JK (1off per caliper required)
Consists of hydraulic seals, boot seals, bleed screws, bleed screw O/ring seals, Bleed Screw dust plugs.
Pad pins # CP6600-109 (2off per caliper required) 100mm long.
Anti-rattle clip # CP6600-150 (1off per caliper required).

So if the bridge pipes (1off per caliper) and wear plates (4off per caliper) are OK then the above parts are all that’s required to service this calliper

James at Raceparts had supplied me all of above, along with new wear plates and screws.

For the rears, they are a Bendix caliper, used on the late citreon XM. Contact BigRedd for seal kits.
Just can't wait to get the Vee back now! :race:

Very rare to see any that are still factory fresh, especially ones that are in great nick.

Id vote leave em exactly as they are Simon!

Pete! Gret info!

Am i right in assuming you sent the calipers to them?? Just the fronts?

No. But they may do this? contact Pete..

I however had my mechanic strip them down and replace parts and bodyshop do the painting, decals and laquer. A combined effort.

Yet to get the vee back, but I will post result pics when I do. Im expecting them to look amazing.

Look forward to seeing the pics.

What was the colour of the calipers you went for? Paint rather than powercoat?

Ali, I got mine through a Motorsport supplier, but as per the post above, if you can get them direct from AP now then happy days. I'm not so sure you could when I rebuilt mine a few years back.

Cheers

Ironically Brembo now own AP Racing, or the other way round, can't remember which!

I forgot, the other reason you can't powder coat them is the baking process of curing the paint can potentially damage the rubber seals that are within the castings where the 2 halves of the caliper body mate together

it depends if the casting is split in 2 halves, the rear calipers on the vee can be powdercoated for example as they are a single casting with no internal rubber seals

Brilliant! looks like a job for some of our long northern nights this winter, will be doing a full reseal any way so might go for a putrid pink or lurid green coating and see if I cant get some other equally obscure stickers such as Nippon Denso!! Seriously though just to get back to original would be great without obvious free advertising!

Yes good info.

I went to the AP HQ a few years ago and tried to buy brand new ones, to put on the 21, but they wouldnt sell them to me and told me I had to go to Renault!

So I went with Hi-Spec radial mounts instead lol
