Front brake caliper removal - ratchet size

Matt

New Member
Hi,

Can anyone tell me the size and type of ratchet for removing the 2 bolts which hold the front clippers on please? Don't have it in my tool box so need to pop out to buy one,

Many thanks,

Matt

Matt, any large heavy duty ratchet should do the job. Just make sure its the right attatchment size for your existing sockets, eg 3/8 or 1/2 inch drive or get step down adaptors.

Have you got a long bar with extentions onto the socket? my calipers had obviously never been removed and I'm guessing yours are the same. with a long bar if you come in from underneath the hub you can get enough room and leverage to crack the nut then use the ratchet to finish the job.

Cheers Dan. Got a hex 8 today but too small. Think it's a h9. Will lever bolts with long 1/2 bar.

Do we need any pictures for a guide of brake disc removal? Don't mind taking them whilst I do it and writing a brief guide.

Can confirm its a hex 10mm ratchet tool to remove Caliper bolts and a t40 for discs.

Just need to get em off now!

Guides always good Matt [smilie=thanks.gif]

Maybe one day we could sell "V6 Clio Maintenance for Dummies" in the club store? :)

just to confirm Matt, its a 10mm hex tool, doesnt need to have a ratchet tool, a solid bar will do it. Best to clean out inside the bolt head first so the tool fits in all all the way. (no jokes please!) I had to use an electric impact wrench on mine years ago as they were so tight and there was no way to get decent leverage in the available space.

Yep 10mm hex tool. I'll clean out the bolt. Cheers mark.

Too cold to go in to the garage yet :)
