Front Apec Discs and Pads Fitted - photos attached

A few people have been asking for photos of these discs, and I managed to get round to fitting them tonight. Fitting was very easy and the old discs, although very badly corroded came off easily and the calipers were in good shape. A quick blast with brake cleaner and the new pads went straight in with a coat of copper ease and the caliper pins cleaned up nicely too.

I can see why my discs were binding so badly, the O/S Inner was badly scored and fit for scrap. Shame really, as it had EBC Redstuff pads fitted fairly recently by the previous owner and they were hardly worn.

Here's some photos:

How did you get on with releasing the caliper.
Did you need a special tool?

prety sure someone on here has managed to fit the discs without removing the caliper. to remove it though you just need a hex tool, (sorry cannot remember the size but any decent socket set would have one. They can be tight as hell though and I had to resort to an impact wrench to release mine but a long breaker bar will do it if you can make the room use it.

You cannot fit the disc without removing the caliper.

Yes as mentioned above, its 2 large hex bolts that holds the caliper on, one top and bottom and then I think its the ABS sensor that attaches on a bracket between the caliper body and the bolts. dead easy to get off on my car, they were tight but a spray of pentrating oil and a long bar with a hex socket attachment had them off in no time.

As Spike says, you cant get the disc on/off without removal of the caliper.

Road tested the car for about 25 miles after fitting the last night and gave the pads time to bed in, I cant beleive how much its transformed the feel of the car. The old discs were really shot!

As someone on this forum has said before, even if these Apec discs warped every 10k miles (which I doubt they will) they are still vastly cheaper than any other option out there.

Definately a winter job for me! Good to hear they are all fine and well! You've saved alot of people around £350 over the price of oem discs!

Ive just fitted the Apec discs and can also confirm they have totally transformed the car. Couldn't believe the difference. Big thumbs up from me.

Chris, did you fit the Apec pads as well? If so what do you think to them so far?

Colin, I was going to wait until Winter to do mine, and couldnt beleive how quick it was to fit them. Literally an hour and the job was done, plus a bit of fettling time to clean the calipers.

Are you kidding?..... It took me a weekend to do mine!! The weather played a part in that but it did take ages. It was a nightmare getting all the bolts out due to all the corrosion. Luckily I bought new bolts knowing Id need them. Cleaned all the calipers up which took half a day but it was well worth it.

I only changed the pads about 500 miles ago so they are only just bedded in. Think they are mintex pads. Don't rate them very highly. Loads of brake dust. Discs seem spot on and they aren't bed in yet.

I would agree with you, I must of imagined it, but sure i read on here somewhere that someone did it without taking it off, I felt daft at the time after reading having gone to so much trouble myself!
...and I am sure it was one of our regular contributors as well......anyone care to own up?

Are these easy enough to fit yourself then? Guess it's just a case of getting the old bolts out of the discs which may be tricky? Where did you get your new botls from?
Thanks in advance,

Matt.
