Flat Spot for a split second but then fine. UPDATE fixed!

Hi i did post i had a flat spot well i typed flat spot into the search function on the forum and it seems that a few people have had a similar problem but no one ever said what it was.

Basically when you press the accelerator hard whether this be from low speed or high there is a delay/pause/flat spot for a 1/4 of a second then its fine. Some days its better than others its seems better when warm but even when accelerating hard through the gears there is a definite delay or a milli second when getting back on the gas. This only occurs sometimes though

All the coils have been replaced and are fine and the plugs are brand new it sounds like an electronic/fueling fault but unsure. I have recalibrated the throttle using the factory procedure "wongy" kindly provided this has made no difference.

I have read that the fuel pumps can cause a problem or possibly the throttle sensor.
To be honest as you can probably tell im a little lost and the car other than this niggle is fine.

Any help would be great.

I wouldn't think it was a fault , more a design issue. The cars are probably setup to behave this way , slight delay in fuelling whilst the ecu etc all works out what fuel to put in as regards throttle position, speed, air, etc.. , it could be a mapping issue ... Anyone else have info????

Sounds like fuel pump issue - if electrics are good.

On mapping: The only positive point of my RSTuning remap was the pick up became livelier... though I would go as far as to state the OEM pick up was equivalent of a flat spot.

Probably needs to be driven back-to-back with another. Whereabouts are you?

Its most evident at the start of the rev range i.e. you floor the throttle say in second from low rpm like circa 2k and there is an initial flat spot then its fine revs freely all the way to red line.
Will be interested to hear every ones thoughts, my friend has a lambda meter so i think i will have him check the fueling.

thanks for the help keen to hear what else everyone thinks

I noticed a flat spot on mine as soon as I bought it (was only a year old) never really caused a problem and I just lived with it as a quirk - the drive-by-wire system did take some getting used to for me in terms of the engine not behaving in the way my mind and throttle inputs expected ...

I liken it in a small way to a turbo car where you feel slightly disconnected and in my case I simply drove the Vee in a way which anticipated the flat spots and power delivery characteristics - always a great engaging drive in that car :approve:

BTW you could always recalibrate the throttle to see if this improves matters - there is an ignition sequence to do this, I think it's in the knowledge base or technical manual.

Hi K1ano
thanks for the post i did think it was a was normal as most people seem to say the same thing is apparent on their cars.
I did the throttle recalibration sequence.
I think its turn ignition on floor the throttle release the throttle turn ignition off and its then done.
Does this sound right?

Thanks again for the post.

Ok so quick update

I did the following two resets:

1. switched the ignition on and pressed the accelerator to the floor for a few seconds, then switched the ignition off.Turned the car back on and let it idle for a few minutes.

2. As per "wongys" link he kindly gave me from another post on page 17-3 i did the cold throttle body reset.
I mention that i followed what its ays to do "cold" as i did this when warm and even though i did follow the instructions chapter line and verse but no change was noted when "warm"

No i have done the above especially number 2 when completely cold first thing in the morning the car seems far better, i dont want to tempt fate but throttle response has even improved and the flat spot today was non apparent.

I hope everyone does the 2 steps above as it seems to have worked for me!

Only thing left is disconnect the battery and then reconnect and leave to idle for 10 mins this is supposed to reset the idle.

Thanks for every ones input.

Try this procedure page 17-3

http://v6clio.net/manuals/faultfinding.pdf

1.2 Throttle body programming procedure
Programming should be performed at least once correctly during the vehicle life cycle, that is, when switching on
for the first time (original initialisation), then each time either the computer or the motorised throttle body are
changed.
After the throttle valve is replaced and before reprogramming, you must clear the programming.
NOTE: A fault appears and the limp-home position is activated:
– If the automatic programming procedure (step 1 above) is interrupted before the five seconds has elapsed, and if
step 3 is not observed.
IMPORTANT: A computer is paired to the engine and the vehicle on which it is installed. Therefore do not try
a computer on another vehicle then return it to the original vehicle.
1. Switch on the ignition and wait at least 5 seconds without starting the engine: the throttle body
matching is initialised automatically.
2. Switch off the ignition.
3. Wait before switching the ignition back on, to allow the computer time to store the programmed
values:
– at least 10 seconds if the engine is cold (coolant temperature lower than 85ºC),
– at least 130 seconds if the engine is warm (coolant temperature 90ºC or above).
4. Switch on the ignition, start the engine and allow it to run at idling speed for one minute to stabilise
the air leak rate through the motorised throttle body.

sorry guys only just checked back exactly what eee007 said is what I did. It worked for me hope it works for everyone else.
sorry again for not checking back thanks eee007

Mine does this, the description is perfect, i have done everything possible and checked everything possible short of doing a naked midnight dance in the garden i am lost for ideas.
p.s. does anyone think the naked dance might work?

Also try to disconnect the battery touch the two terminals together leave it off for 10 mins and then reconnect and start, do not touch the throttle just start it and leave it for at least 10 mins so the idle values can be re learnt, after doing this do the 2 things i suggested at the start of the post.

This is what i did and its fine now.

I learnt this from Clarkiev6 a while back

Normally for each annual service I get the air cleaner plus throttle body taken off and thoroughly cleaned up

Then do this reset sharpens the throttle response up a bit cos I guess it's pairing back up

Trophy coils per my other post help too of course :)
