Fixes for Misfire when cold, Tapping from Top End etc

I think a couple of people posted problems with poor starting, misfiring when cold on light throttle, rough idle.

So posting some tips / fixes that worked on my Mk1 that people might find useful

(1) Disconnected and cleaned all the pins with contact cleaner in the engine bay and also under the bonnet for the throttle cable linkage. Will take 1-2 hours as there are many connectors and they are crap!

(2 After the cleaning of connectors a fault code came up after 1/2 days that the oxygen sensor was faulty. The garage did a manual check rather than OBD (e.g. voltmeter or something ?) to check all 4 oxygen sensors and found that 2 were faulty not 1 oxygen sensor, meaning the ECU was not picking all faults correctly, so would say its worth getting them checked manually than relying on the OBD / ECU.

(3 Check after market air filter e.g. Piper X / CDA - mine had a Piper X when I bought it that had never been serviced e.g. cleaned then oiled should be once a year. My filter sponge was old and black with dirt so had to be binned.
After this check, take off the air filter to throttle body rubber pipe, then unbolt the throttle body from the manifold and clean the butterfly valve and throttle parts with carb cleaner.

(4) Tapping / ticking from top of engine when cold - a couple of members in HK have this problem, seems to be lazy hydraulic valve lifter / tappet? I used engine flush followed by new engine oil plus this product which has quietened things down at least for now.
