I moved to Hong Kong last year from the UK and I bought my clio v6 here 3 months ago but only finally got my hands on my car last week! And without Clarkie's specialist knowledge and help in supplying and shipping parts, technical advice and sparing time to help over the phone my car would probably still be in the renault workshop!
In the 3 months since I put a deposit on the car, it has spent most of that time sitting in a Renault Dealer workshop due to extremely poor service from Renault / the Dealer including:
Charging me 200 quid for a pre-purchase inspection, diagnosing faults incorrectly - including one fault of severe misfiring at 4000 - 5000 rpm that I told them about before they carried out the inspection.
Quoting me a delivery time of 3 weeks to deliver parts from France to Hong Kong at rip off prices - this meant I had to find my own supplier in the UK. Fortunately Clarkie has been fantastic helping me with both advice on coils, plugs at decent prices, you name it he knows it!
Renault sending the wrong water pump for the cambelt change = delay of 2 weeks as the engine sat waiting for the correct waterpump to be supplied so that it could be refitted
The dealer giving me the car back but it still had the severe misfire at 4000rpm that I told them about before the inspection. The Arguing with the dealer about why I paid 200 quid for a pre-purchase inspection and they did not find the fault that I told them was there in the first place after new ignition coils had been fitted - including going on two extended test drives where the foreman mechanic tried to tell me there was no fault and another trying to tell me it stops at 4000 rpm cos thats the rev limiter kicking in!
A quick call to Clarkie after getting fed up of their excuses re symptoms he suggests fuelling issue - I tell the dealer and later the same day they find a knackered fuel pump.
Eventually after threatening legal action letters to the dealer's MD's, Hong Kong trading standards they agree to fix the fuel pump for free as a goodwill gesture though denying that waiting 3 months to get my car was in anyway their fault or a bit of a problem!
So now I've finally got the car. And as soon as I fire up the engine and hear the noise - I realise that its defo been worth the unbelievably long wait especially since the previous owner fitted Piper X, Yokohamas, after market exhaust, newly fitted EBC brake pads, coils and getting the car for just 6k gbp with 11500 miles on the clock. Even the aircon works with temperatures of 30c+ and an oven (i.e. engine) in the back it needs to. This includes EBC brake pads, new coils etc etc, with the cambelt been fitted at my own expense.
Only complaints - the sports exhaust looks like its straight through seems way too loud, mpg is defo low, parking is difficult cos in HK is all multi storey car parks and the turning circle is bad!
But who cares the car is nuts and I love it plus there's only 12 of these in HK so is defo different!
