Exhaust question

Snails

New Member
I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so apologies if it is in the wrong place.

I am having a new back box made up by a local custom exhaust specialist. I was looking for something quieter and less boomy at everyday rpm.

They advised today it had been decated which was news to me. They advised there were 4 cats and 2 were missing. I assume they mean the collector box? They advised it was a hole had previously been cut in to and welded back up?

The previous owner said the baffles were removed? They said that without doing something to this they wouldn't easily be able to get it much quieter?

Not to worry, collected the car. It sounds amazing now and the craftsmanship is amazing. They explained that somebody had gutted the collector box previously and this coupled with the quicksilver made for a very loud exhaust.

They cut the ends off the old collector box and fitted 2 new packed ends and then ran the pipe work down to 2 new smaller back boxes, rather than a single box. It looks and sounds super. It still pops when the engine is over running, but at 80 it is really quiet. When I accelerate there is the right sort of noise and rumbles nicely. I'm really happy. The guys at Longlife in Ipswich couldn't be friendlier either and created the noise I was after, quiet at cruising speed, but fruity when accelerating hard.

It may be a little while, I haven't got the time after work this week and I'm away this weekend. I'd like to get some pictures with the bumper off to show all the pipework.

Quieter, inside and out. Cold idle it is a bit quieter, warm idle it is much quieter.

It doesn't sound as 'bassy' when the engine is reved.

This reminds me, I was going to take photos of it to show. I'll try and remember and get the bumper off this weekend.
